$OP Airdrop (Redux)

    Introduction

For layer 2, multiple scaling strategies exist. Expectation is one of them. With the help of technology, optimistic rollups condense massive volumes of data into manageable packages. Optimism is substantially less expensive to operate than Ethereum and other layer 2s like Arbitrum. With the addition of an optimism chain, the second tier of Ethereum's mainnet has been improved. Whose information is visible on the public blockchain and can be verified, but whose transactions are still based on hope. The optimistic perspective employs a strategy known as rollups, and more specifically, optimistic rollups. On Ethereum's mainnet, a rollup is nothing more than the consolidation of numerous transactions into one (layer 1). Non-fungible token mints, token swaps, and other similar uses are possible with these. The blockchain transaction, or gas cost, that must be paid in this situation is reduced from multiple transactions to a single one, making it easier on everyone concerned [1].

Optimism (OP) is the native token of Optimism, OP has a total supply of 4.294 billion. The OP token gives holders participation rights in The Optimism Collective, a two-tier governance system composed of Token House and Citizens’ House. Citizens’ House will come live later in 2022. Token House, which is already active, governs technical decisions related to Optimism, such as software upgrades. The Citizens’ House governs public-goods funding decisions. In its early days, Optimism itself raised funds on Gitcoin, a major public-goods funding platform.

Participating in Token House governance can require a serious time commitment. For this reason, people are able to delegate their OP to community members who have explicitly volunteered to play an active role in Token House governance [2].

Being a delegate is an important job that comes with a lot of responsibility.

    Method

On May 31st, Optimism introduced its OP token. According to the official Optimism documentation, 214,748,364.80 OP tokens were "airdropped" to a total of 248,699 addresses. That's only 5% of the 4.29 billion total supply, therefore 95% has yet to enter the market.

The distributer address was used to select airdrop data from the fact token transfers table in Optimism's core database with

contract_address = '0x4200000000000000000000000000000000000042' filtr, as OP token contract.

so, eligible addresses who reported their OP airdrop were selected to examine holding behavior. Next, delivered and received OP tokens, including the airdrop, were calculated. Then, their holdings were calculated by subtracting sent from received. Finally, these addresses were categorized by holdings. If the address's holdings were more than the airdropped amount, it held its OP and added extra tokens. Fact delegations and fact event logs tables were utilized for delegation. Those who modified their delegation status could use the allocated amount. This investigation measured and presented data that excluded most delegators.

    Analysis

The visuals below show the daily claim transactions, claimer addresses count, average claimed OP token amount over time

    ✍🏻 Conclusion

    As of findings above:

    • If this is accurate, the OP has made a total claim of 158.66M.

    • There are approximately 248.70K people that qualify to receive the airdrop.

    • Between June 1 and September 28 of that same year, 149.04K claims were filed. On June 1, 2022, 73.06K Claimers were recorded, with the number dropping to 15 on September 19, 2022.

    • There were fewer claims on June 2 and June 3, 2022, and more on July 28 and June 1, 2022.

    • Between May 31, 2022, and September 28, 2022, 158.66 million OP claims were submitted.

    • There was a peak of 68.78M claimed OP on June 1, 2022, and a trough of 8.8K claimed OP on September 21, 2022.

    • On May 31st, 2022, the average claimed OP was 1,47,000, and on August 18th, 2022, the lowest claimed OP was $466.04. Only 3,100 users are still in possession of their claimed OP token.

    • Seventy-plus percent of token holders have already delegated their OP tokens, and most of them did so immediately after claiming their tokens.

    About:

    $OP Airdrop

Earlier this year, Optimism offered an airdrop to users. Let’s examine the airdrop after a few months.

How many users claimed optimism airdrop? How much of total airdrop was claimed? How many wallets are still holding tokens from airdrop? How much of users delegated their OPs?

Feel free to provide any information that you think is related to token price. \n

    :mag_right: Findings:

As of graphs above and right and PIE charts below, can said that, In total, only 60% of all eligible addresses have claimed nearly 74% of all allocated OP tokens since the first airdrop wave began. During the first few days of the airdrop, the vast majority of OP tokens were claimed. Similarly, the vast majority of tokens were claimed by eligible addresses in the first few days. After only 10 days, both the number of claimants and the total amount of OP tokens claimed dropped dramatically.

The PIE charts above show the destinations of OP token to delegate based on delegated volume and delegators count.

Also, as of PIE graphs right can be seen 61% of claimers delegated their tokens after claim. and 41.7% of them delegate their tokens to Optimism unknown addresses, that followed by Lindajxie & Quixotic with 14.1 & 11.1% based on delegators count and 13.1 & 11.6% based on delegated volume, respectively.

:hourglass_flowing_sand: Following PIE & Bar charts show the top destinations of OP tokens over time after claim.

    :mag_right: Findings:

This part allocated to find the destinations of OP tokens after claiming.

As of above PIE and bar charts can be observed the most percentages of OP token are belongs to Optimism that followed by Uniswap v3 with about 16%.

The chart above right is presented in log scale to have a better view of changes over time.

After Uniswap v3. unknown addresses has the most percentage of destinations shares with 11.4%.

    Background

The Optimism Foundation’s Airdrop #1 rewards those who have been instrumental as early adopters and active users of projects in the Optimism ecosystem. To celebrate our Ethereum roots, The Optimism Foundation also want to welcome active L1 participants who can help scale Ethereum’s innovations, culture, and values to Layer 2. In total, 248,699 addresses are eligible to claim OP in this initial airdrop [Read More…].

Our airdrop has six sets of criteria. Two for Optimism users that target early adopters and active project users, and four for L1 Ethereum, which target active contribution, positive-sum behaviors, and active participation. Each set is distinct, meaning that an address can be eligible for multiple and allocated a sum of tokens accordingly. A snapshot of addresses was taken on 03-25-2022 0:00 UTC. The allocations and criteria break down as table right:
