Open Analytics Bounty: Snapshot (August 16)

    Introduction

    Governance Tokens

    > Among the rights represented by governance tokens are the following. Income security: protocols have the right to charge users for access. A portion of these fees may be distributed to token holders by a governance vote, analogous to dividends for stockholders.

    Snapshot

    > An example of a decentralized voting system is Snapshot. It allows you some leeway in deciding how to allocate votes. Snapshot offers flexible voting options to meet the demands of different businesses. Snapshot's proposal creation and voting processes are easy to use and do not consume gas because they occur off-chain.

    Optimism Viting

    > The Optimism Collective is a large-scale experiment in decentralized governance. Optimisms Vision is to sustainably fund public goods that improve upon the well-being of the Collective and beyond. > > The form and function of this governance is intentionally open-ended, and will evolve with community participation, growth, and learning. > > Certain governance rights are granted via OP, an ERC20 token. The Optimism Foundation will work alongside the Collective to shape how the rules of governance evolve over time.

    Method

    • In this dashboard I tried to looking to see how active Optimism is on snapshot and how users are using the protocol. To understand this we will visualize the following metrics:

    > Daily Snapshot Votes, Voters, Proposals and Voting Power > > Cumulative Votes, Voters, and Voting Power of Optimism on Snapshot > > Top Snapshot proposals by excluding count of Voters more than 100#. > > Voters by activity cohorts > > Votes by vote type

To achieve this, I filtered the ethereum.core.ez snapshot table using the network name "Optimism Mainnet." After cleaning title proposals and having voters tally more than 100 persons, I gave each voter three choices.

    Analysis

:incoming_envelope: Overall View of Optimism Voting on Snapshot

I distinguished the place of Optimism Mainnet on top 10 network, and found that its seventh place on networks classified based on count of voters.

    > In an Overall View Can see that: > > More than 15.8k voted on Snapshot for Optimisms proposals. > > About 56% of them voted yes to proposals. > > since June 10th the count of voters increased from zero on Jun 8th to more than 2500 voters on Jun 10th. > > More than 51% of voting powers goes to YES and 42.7% to NO and 5.8% were Abstain on voting.

In the following ==bubble chart== that shows the correlation of Voters count and cast votes, can observed that with voters more than 1k the count of votes raised up to more than 5k.

The share of votes type for each proposal that have had more than ==100 voters==, are shown in the next bar chart. In four of proposals all of voters said YES to proposal and haven’t had any contractives.
