Standardized TVL over time (all pools)

Q64. Traditional TVL metrics are imperfect because they are influenced by both the quantity and price of the tokens over time. We would like to see a version of this metric that abstracts out the price influence on this metric. There are many ways to approach this, but feel free to try out something like: assume asset and RUNE prices are fixed at their current value and show THORChain’s TVL over time or use the same methodology, but instead of current prices, fix them at their average price over a certain timeframe

For the following chart we assuming that RUNE prices are fixed at their current value and calculate THORChain’s TVL over time.

Introduce

If deep dive into the Traditional TVL metrics, we can found that are imperfect metrics, because they are impacted by both the quantity and price of the tokens over time. In the current dashboard We would like to see a version of this metric that abstracts out the price influence on this metric.

Method

For this means we use the thorchain.daily_pool_stats table on Flipsides database and extract RUNE_PRICE_USD & ASSET_PRICE_USD and calculate average price all the tine that have data and the price on the current date too. therefore we calculate two TVL by AVG price & current price.

For the following chart we assuming that ASSET prices are fixed at their current value and calculate THORChain’s TVL over time.

For the following chart we calculating AVG price by RUNE prices over the all time that have data nd by that calculate TVL by RUNE price.

- In the above chart two calculated TVL are compared and can observed that there are little deference between that two that are ignorable.

- In the above chart two calculated TVL that calculated base on ASSET_PRICE_USD, are compared and can observed that there are little deference between that two that are ignorable.

Conclusion

As same as current dashboards results can notice that TVL calculated base on ASSET_PRICE_USD & RUNE_PRICE_USD are the same
