Sushi vs Uni on L2
Introduction
Uniswap
Built on Ethereum, Uniswap functions as a decentralized exchange and liquidity pool with the same level of security as Ethereum's blockchain. As a result of its decentralized nature, there is no single point of failure that could be compromised to steal users' money.
Sushiswap
Chef Nomi and 0xMaki, two anonymous open-source developers, created Sushiswap, an Ethereum-blockchain DEX, as a fork of Uniswap. Similar to Uniswap, SushiSwap allowed users to trade tokens directly with one another, bypassing the requirement for a third party.
Layer 2 Solutions
Optimism was developed by Ethereum programmers specifically for Ethereum programmers; it is a fast, stable, and scalable L2 blockchain. Optimism's EVM-equivalent design, which was developed as a basic augmentation to existing Ethereum software, allows your Ethereum applications to scale without any unpleasant shocks. If anything can be done on Ethereum, then it can be done on Optimism, and for far less money.
Arbitrum hopes to cut down on transaction costs and congestion, by offloading as much processing and data storage as possible off Ethereum's primary blockchain (layer 1).
Polygon is an open-source Ethereum scaling platform that facilitates the creation of secure, low-cost, and scalable decentralized applications (dApps).
Layer 2 scaling solutions refer to methods of storing information outside of Ethereum's blockchain.
Method
In this dashboard the following tables was used to calculate the swaps metrics on each networks:
- sushi.ez_swaps table on each network to calculate Sushiswap transactions metrics
- core.fact_event_logs table on each network to calculate Uniswap V3 transactions metrics by following router addresses”
> * 0xe592427a0aece92de3edee1f18e0157c05861564 > * 0x68b3465833fb72a70ecdf485e0e4c7bd8665fc45
these addresses are same in all three network (Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum)
In the first two sections each of platforms was assessed separately, and at the end those compared in single charts.
- The calculations was performed for past 6 month and in a weekly timeframe, but you can change it by your own choice in the header tape.
✍🏻 Conclusion
- With 25.2% of the total number of swaps transactions, the Polygon network on the Uniswap platform takes the cake, followed closely by the Arbitrum network on the Sushiswap platform.
- Conversely, roughly a quarter of swappers reported using the Arbitrum by Uniswap platform for their swaps.
- On August 8th, the total number of swaps transacted on Polygon by Uniswap surpassed the 2 million times, surpassing Sushiswap in the process.
- Nearly two-thirds of all swaps on all three networks were conducted on Uniswap, while the remaining third were conducted on Sushiswap.

:telescope: Findings:
- The most transactions swaps count was performed on Polygon network by about 70K, and highest count of unique swappers interact with Arbitrum network on Uniswap.
- Total count of swaps transactions and unique swappers count increased over past 6 month on all three networks.
- On August 15th, unique count of swappers on Arbitrum passed two other networks and reached 430K in total.
:1234: Uniswap transactions metrics
:telescope: Findings:
- The share of Optimism network on Sushiswap transactions metrics is too low (less than 1% in transactions and unique users count).
- Total count of swaps transactions and unique swappers count of Arbitrum network increased over past 6 month, but on Polygon decreased.
- On Sep 26th, the count of swaps transactions on Arbitrum passed Polygon network and reached 1.53M in total.
:1234: The Comparision of Swap transactions metrics on two platforms
:telescope: Findings:
The most share of swaps transactions count are belongs to Polygon network on Uniswap platform with 25.2% of total swaps transactions count, and second place is belongs to Arbitrum on Sushiswap platform.
In the other hand, the most of swappers performed their transactions on Arbitrum by Uniswap platform, (about 23%).
In August 8th, cumulative swaps transactions count on Polygon by Uniswap passed Sushiswap and reached at about 2M in total.
Overall, roughly 55% of swaps transactions on all three networks performed on Uniswap and the rest on Sushiswap, that is so close to each other.
