Terra - 13. Terra Grants Funding
Examine grants funding since the launch of Terra 2. If possible, identify the grants transactions (feel free to supplement this with off-chain research to identify who’s been funded and in what amounts). Based on your investigation, produce a simple, clean dashboard that tracks grant funding thus far on Terra 2.
✨Introduction
Terra Grants is a program designed to support the development and growth of the Terra ecosystem by providing funding, technical support, and mentorship to projects that contribute to the platform's development. The grants are distributed in the form of Terra Luna and are intended to cover project expenses such as salaries, infrastructure, marketing, and other operational costs.
Proposals Types:
Text Proposal: A Text Proposal is a petition format that can be used for a wide variety of purposes, such as requesting that a certain feature be implemented by the core developers or the community at large. There is a special kind of proposal called a "Parameter Change Proposal" that, if approved, will immediately change the specified parameter of the network. The proposal type known as "Software Upgrade Proposals" stipulates that validators must upgrade their node software to a new version at a predetermined block height.

🛠️ Method
In this dashboard, I have distinguished the proposals by their types in the form of "CommunityPoolSpend," tracked the vote types by "VOTE_OPTION_TEXT," and gathered the proposals that have been passed by the highest "YES" vote type.
In addition, I disqualified proposal #3460, which was a liquid staking and slow burn arbitrage protocol that had been funded by nearly $40 million in Luna.
The total paid grant out volume (in $USD & LUNA) has been calculated and visualized over time and per passed proposal.
✍🏻 Conclusion
In conclusion, the Grants in Terra program has been successful in supporting the development of innovative dApps on the Terra platform. The analysis of grant funding since the launch of Terra 2 has shown that the program has funded a range of proposals, from smaller projects to larger initiatives that have received significant grant funding.
The rejection of two proposals demonstrates that the Terra community takes a discerning approach to grant funding and carefully considers proposals. The Terra Phoenix Airdrop proposal, which received over $35 million in grant funding, highlights the success of the grant program in supporting important initiatives that contribute to the overall growth and success of the Terra ecosystem.
The dashboard's visualizations provide valuable insights into the grant program, including the range of grant requests and the distribution of grant funds. The analysis of grant funding over time shows the evolution of the program and highlights the potential for successful grant proposals to receive significant financial support. Overall, the Grants in Terra program has been an important part of building a vibrant and sustainable developer ecosystem around the Terra platform.

🔎 Findings:
There are 9 approved proposals, and one of them is the Terra Phoenix Airdrop with proposal ID = 986 that has been funded by $35.34M to drop the Terra LUNA 2.0 tokens to those who lost their assets in the Luna crash. So if we ignore it, there are 8 on-chain proposals with grants that have been funded through 38.6K casted votes and about $35M.
Overall, 21.8 million Luna has been paid out as grant funding since Terra Luna 2.0.
The table below represents an overview of all Community Pool Spend proposals by their passed or reject status, total casted votes, total grant paid out and etc.
⏳ Overview
The bar graph provides a clear visual representation of the requests for grant funding by proposal ID number. It's interesting to see the range of grant requests, from just a few thousand dollars to over $35 million. The rejection of two proposals also demonstrates that the Terra community takes a discerning approach to grant funding and considers proposals carefully.
Also the next PIE chart shows the share of paid out grant fund by the proposals title and paid out grant volume.
The pie chart is a useful way to understand the distribution of paid out grant funds by proposal title. It's interesting to see that the Terra Phoenix Airdrop proposal received the largest share of grant funding by far, with over $35 million paid out. This underscores the importance of the proposal in the Terra ecosystem and highlights the success of the grant program in supporting innovative projects.
🔥 Grant Funding Over Time
The first Community Pool Spend proposal was voted on on July 17th, with over 22.5K cast votes for a $3.02M fund, and it was the second proposal with the most paid out fund after #986 with $35.34M on August 26th.
Except for these two proposals that received excessive grant funding, there are two proposals that have received more than $650K ($683K for #3612 and $661.6K for #3796 on December 12th and January 13th, respectively), and the remaining five proposals have received less than $100K per each.
The MetricsDAO On-Chain Data Curation Grant proposal was funded in July with $57.13K.
The analysis of grant funding over time provides valuable insights into the development of the Terra grant program. The fact that the first proposal received over 22.5K cast votes demonstrates the engagement and interest of the Terra community in the grant program from the beginning. The success of proposals #986 and #3796 in receiving significant grant funding highlights the potential for successful grant proposals to receive significant financial support. The funding of the MetricsDAO On-Chain Data Curation Grant proposal also demonstrates that the Terra grant program is committed to supporting a range of innovative projects in the ecosystem.
