The Decentralization of NEAR
Explore key metrics and trends shaping NEAR's journey towards decentralization. Analyzing staked balances, validator count, seat price, and more, gain valuable insights into NEAR's distribution landscape. Discover the strides made and areas for improvement as we navigate NEAR's path to a more decentralized ecosystem.
Welcome to the NEAR Ecosystem Decentralization Dashboard! In this dashboard, we aim to explore the decentralization of the NEAR ecosystem over time. We will utilize Flipside's new fact_staking_balances and fact_staking_pool_daily_balances tables to analyze the relevant data and provide insights into the evolving nature of decentralization within the NEAR network.
Decentralization is a crucial aspect of blockchain ecosystems, as it ensures a more robust and resilient network. It empowers participants and contributes to the overall security and censorship resistance of the platform. In the context of NEAR, we will delve into whether the ecosystem has become more or less decentralized as time has progressed.
To measure the network's decentralization, we will employ various metrics, including the Nakamoto coefficient. The Nakamoto coefficient measures the distribution of influence or control within a network by analyzing the concentration of network participants. Additionally, we will consider metrics such as the count of validators and the percentage of staked supply. These simplified metrics will help illustrate how the narrative of NEAR's decentralization has evolved over time.
By analyzing the data and metrics, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of NEAR's decentralization journey. This dashboard will enable you to explore the historical trends, identify any shifts in decentralization, and gain a deeper understanding of the network's structure and distribution of power.
We invite you to dive into the interactive visualizations and charts presented in this dashboard. Through data-driven insights, we hope to shed light on the progress and trajectory of NEAR's decentralization, enabling stakeholders and enthusiasts to make informed decisions and contribute to the growth of the ecosystem.
Let's embark on this exploration together and discover the fascinating story of NEAR's decentralization journey!
Data Sources:
Flipside's NEAR tables: Data from Flipside's NEAR tables is the primary source for all charts and statistics in the dashboard. NEAR-Staking Validator Metrics: Validator metrics from NEAR-Staking are used for validation purposes.
Data Extraction:
Validator Staked Balances: Staked balances are extracted from Flipside's fact_staking_pool_daily_balances table to analyze the distribution of staked NEAR tokens among validators over time.
Total NEAR Supply:
The total NEAR supply is extracted from near.core.fact_blocks table.
Calculation of Current Seat Price:
The current seat price is extracted from NEAR-Staking data, representing the cost to become a validator in the NEAR network.
Visualization and Analysis:
The extracted data points are used to create charts and statistics that visualize the decentralization of the NEAR ecosystem over time. Metrics like Nakamoto coefficient, count of validators, percentage of staked supply, and governance participation are calculated and displayed in the dashboard.
Data Validation:
Validator metrics from NEAR-Staking are used to validate the accuracy and consistency of data obtained from Flipside's NEAR tables.
By following this methodology, the dashboard provides a summarized and informative analysis of the decentralization trends within the NEAR ecosystem. It enables users to explore insights using reliable data sources, extraction procedures, and visualization techniques.
