Visualising what hour of the day has the highest volume of swaps and liquidity additions and removals
We can also break this down to consider the hour with the highest swap volume for each pool.
- The ETH-ETH, ETH-YFI & ETH-SUSHI pools each have their highest swap volumes occurring at 7pm (hour 19).
- The BNB-BUSD pool has its highest swap volumes occuring at 8pm (hour 20).
- There is some variation across the other pools, with some having highest swap volumes occurring at similar or earlier hours.
The chart below illustrates the total hourly swap volume on average for each hour of the day, across the last several months (April to October 2021).
First considering the average hourly swap volume summed across all pools:
- 1pm (13:00 - 13:59) is the busiest, with almost $403,000 worth of swaps conducted on average.

All data is based on summarising the thorchain.swap data table.
Aside from swap volumes, we can also consider the busiest times for adding or removing liquidity to each pool.
- 3pm (15:00 - 15:59) is the busiest time for adding liquidity to all thorchain pools. The two hours prior also have high volume of liquidity addition transactions.
- There is a noticeable drop off in other hours, where volume ranges from under $100,000 to $200,000.
We can also view the busiest hours for adding liquidity into each pool.
Compared to liquidity additions, there is a less noticble difference between the volume at each hour.
Yet again we can also visualise the busiest time for liquidity removal volume by each pool.
