INTRODUCTION
Here we will take a look at NEAR smart contract deployments and usage and try to find insights to boost development in the ecosystem.
DATA SOURCES:
The data used are from Flipside’s ==NEAR.core== tables.
Here we see the weekly new contracts deployed on NEAR being pretty stable from 500 up to 900 most weeks.
The total number of contracts are 42.2k to this date.
We also see the top 10 contracts by user activity in the last 3 months. ==token.sweat== is the first one with 4.19M transactions **tge-**lockup.sweat== is second with 1.28M txns. In the third place with 99k is ==v1.pembrock.near==
and the rest have less than 5k transactons.
INSIGHTS
From the charts above and some reading at Milkroad we see that most of the apps/contracts created-deployed are financial related only e.g. DEX, AMM, LP and other. Even though these are fundamentals applications of the benefits of the blockchain and provide tremendous value to users the market is generally smaller.
As in non-crypto apps (technology in general) financial related apps are not among the top by user count. As we saw above the numbers with the SWEAT launch were orders of magnitude higher than other contracts as this is an app that provides the benefits of crypto (money side) to another domain - fitness in this case.
Contract deployment and developer engagement generally happens when these technical people see good foundations on a project with the potential of high growth but as in with Big Tech most of them work on Silicon Valley and not New York (~estimates).
Possible actions NEAR can take to increase this engagement is some kind of hackathons where they invite devs to try and solve a real problem a normal person may face - like obesity with SWEAT - and use crypto tech stack to find a solution that maybe couldn’t exist till now.
