INTRODUCTION

Earlier this summer Optimism did their first Airdrop to 248.7k eligible users. Users were selected based on their engagement with the Optimism network or the Ethereum network.

METHODOLOGY

We will find the users and amount of OP related using the airdrop address 0xfedfaf1a10335448b7fa0268f56d2b44dbd357de.

After we will track user activity to find about their actions.

DATA SOURCES:

Data were taken by Flipside’s ==Optimism.core== tables.

1. NUMBER OF USERS AND OP THAT CLAIMED THE AIRDROP.

• Frist we see that 149.1k users have claimed their airdrop, approximately 60% of eligible users.
• These users have claimed 158.7M OP tokens or 74% of the total airdrop supply.

When we see the daily claims that we made we see that the majority of users claimed their funds in the first week. In the first 2 days alone there were 114k users that claimed 128M OP tokens, comparing these to the total numbers we see that most users knew about the airdrop in time and acted fast.

2. HOLDINGS AND DELEGATION.

Below we see the distribution of people who sold (or not) their coins.

We define as - hold when the user has hold > 90% of his holdings

                   - hold partial when the user hold >10% of his holdings 

                   - sold when the user holds <10% holdings.

By that definition se see that 83.4% of users have sold their holdings 12.6 have hold them and 4% have hold some.

This selling pressure matches the price decline that happened after August. here

On these two charts we see that 137k users have delegated their OP approximately 77.6% and 39k didn’t.

This shows that most people don’t really care about Optimism by giving up their voting power.

3. CONCLUSION

• 60% (149k) of eligible users have claimed their tokens.
• 74% (158M) of total OP have been claimed.
• Most people sold their holdings which had a huge selling pressure on the market.
• Most users have delegated their OP tokens indicating that they don’t deeply care about the project.
