This technology is a game changer in terms of distributing ownership of a music and eliminating a lot of the intermediaries, but it is a little complex, they created STOI.org as a platform to make it simpler for everyone.
How does it work?
A STOI Smart Contract generates a predetermined amount of STOI Tokens, each of which represents both a financial stake in the Song and voting power over crucial Song decisions. A STOI token symbolizes your ownership stake in the DAO (Digital Autonomous Organization) for each song - similar to the ownership structure of an LLC agreement on the blockchain - and any transactions are compensated according to the Smart Contract that represents the artwork and its rights holders. For example, whether to license the song in a particular context, distribution strategy, derivative works, and remastering would all fall under the decision-making authority of STOI Token Holders, with the DAO setting the rules for how these decisions are made and how and when Token Holders are compensated.
