    What is THORChain???

THORChain is a standalone blockchain constructed using the Cosmos SDK that will function as a cross-chain decentralized trade (DEX). It employs an automated market maker (AMM) approach that mimics the initial versions of Bancor (BNT) or Uniswap, using THORChain's native token (RUNE) as the basic swap pair. This technique enables traders to travel across distinct asset pools by using RUNE as a relatively concealed middleman. Additionally, it compensates liquidity providers (LPs), those who deposit or "stake" assets on either side of a liquidity pool, with a percentage of trading costs.

    Question

Show the distribution of swap sizes in both $RUNE and USD, both for all pools as well as broken down by pool.

    Methodology

    • We aim to illustrate the distribution of swap sizes in both $RUNE and USD, both for all pools and for the top 10 pool swap sizes
    • Since THORChain allows adding liquidity in one of three ways: Rune-only, asset-only, or symmetric (both Rune and asset), we seek to illustrate the distribution of swap sizes in $RUNE and USD based on these categories.

Analysis I: This section is to visualize the distribution of swap sizes in both $RUNE and USD, both for all pools and for the top 10 pool swap sizes

The graphs above illustrate the distribution of swaps in $RUNE by total number and percentage of swappers. 22.4% of all swappers are categorized as Crab and hold between $1 and $10 RUNE. Dolphin swappers with between $100 and $1,000 RUNE account for 21.4% of all swappers, followed closely by Octopus swappers with 21.3 percent. While Whale swappers own more than $10,000 RUNE, they do the smallest swaps. As a result, the majority of THORChain swappers are Crab, Dolphin, and Octopus swappers, indicating that common swappers are the driving force behind THORChain's swapping activities.

The graphs above demonstrate the distribution of swaps in $USD by total and percentage of swappers. Crabs account for 24.1 percent of all swappers and hold between $10 and $100 USD. Octopus swappers with between $100 and $500 USD account for 20.5% of all swappers, closely followed by Dolphin swappers with 19.9%. Meanwhile, the smallest swap amounts in $USD can be found among Whale swappers who have swapped more than $100,000 USD. As a result, the majority of swappers are Crab, Octopus, and Dolphin swappers, suggesting that common swappers drive THORChain swapping activity.

The bar charts show the top 10 most swap size pools in $RUNE and $USD. It can be seen that BNB.BUSD pool has the highest swap amounts in $RUNE and $USD. BTC.BTC pool has the second-highest swap amounts in $RUNE and $USD, followed by ETH.ETH pool, and BNB.BNB pool. According to the graphs, the results indicate that most swap amount pools are related to well-known tokens such as BNB, BTC, ETH, BUSD, and USDC.

The bar charts illustrate the distribution of swaps in $RUNE value for the top 10 swap size pools by the total number of swappers and percentage. The BNB.BNB pool has the largest number of swappers among the top 10 swap size pools, with the majority of Crab swappers holding between $1 and $10 RUNE.

The bar graphs depict the distribution of swaps in $USD value for the top 10 swap size pools by the total number of swappers and percentage of swappers. BNB.BNB pool has the greatest number of swappers among the top 10 swap size pools, with the majority of Crab swappers owning between $10 and $100 USD.

The above bar graphs demonstrate the distribution of swaps in $RUNE value for each pool type by total number and percentage of swappers. We can see that the number of swappers in asset-only pools is significantly higher than in symmetric pools. Moreover, the majority of swappers in the asset-only pool type are Crab swappers holding $1 and $10 RUNE, whereas the majority of swappers in the symetric pool type are Dolphin swappers holding $100 and $1000 RUNE.

    Summary

    • Based on $RUNE and $USD swap sizes, we discovered that the majority of THORChain swappers are Crab swappers, indicating that common swappers are the driving force behind THORChain's swapping activities.
    • The majority of swap amount pools are associated with well-known assets such as BNB, BTC, ETH, BUSD, and USDC, as discovered.
    • We also discovered that BNB.BNB pool has the most swappers among the top 10 swap size pools, with the bulk of Crab swappers based on $RUNE and $USD swap amounts.
    • We found that the number of swappers in asset-only pools is significantly higher than in symmetric pools.
    • The majority of swappers in asset-only pools are Crab swappers, while the majority of swappers in symmetric pools are Dolphin swappers.

Analysis II: This section is to visualize the distribution of swap sizes in $RUNE and USD based on these categories since THORChain enables providing liquidity in one of three ways: Rune-only, asset-only, or symmetric (both Rune and asset).

The above bar graphs depict the distribution of swaps in USD value for each pool type based on the total number and proportion of swappers. The number of swappers in asset-only pools is considerably greater than in symmetric pools. In addition, the majority of swappers in the asset-only pool type are Crab swappers holding $10 and $100 USD, whereas the majority of swappers in the symmetric pool type are Dolphin swappers holding $1,000 and $10,000 USD.
