$OP Airdrop (Redux)

Dashboard by PM...#6566 Question: Earlier this summer, Optimism offered an airdrop to users. Let’s examine the airdrop after a few months. How many users claimed optimism airdrop? How much of total airdrop was claimed? How many wallets are still holding tokens from airdrop? How much of users delegated their OPs?

    Optimism Airdrop Background

Airdrop #1 of the Optimism Foundation acknowledges early adopters and active users of activities within the Optimism ecosystem. To honour our Ethereum legacy, the Optimism Foundation would also want to encourage active L1 participants who can aid in growing Ethereum's ideas, culture, and values to Layer 2. This first airdrop is available to a total of 248,699 addresses.

    Methodology

    • We examined how many users claimed the optimism airdrop.
    • Then we attempt to compute the total amount of $OP claimed.
    • We also count how many wallets still hold tokens from the $OP airdrop.
    • Finally, we look at how many users delegated their $OP tokens.

    Analysis I:

This section determines the number of users who claimed the optimism airdrop. Additionally, we attempt to calculate the total amount of $OP claimed.

    Analysis II:

This section seeks to identify how many wallets still hold $OP airdrop tokens. In addition, this part will examine the price changes of $OP throughout time.

    Analysis III:

This section aims to look at how many users delegated their $OP tokens.

As seen in the results above, approximately 215 million $OP tokens are all tokens for optimism airdrop#1. We also discovered that about 159.8M $OP tokens, or around 74% of the total $OP airdrop for this round, had already been claimed.

We determined that about 249k users are eligible to receive $OP from the optimism airdrop#1. We also found that 150.5K wallets have already claimed $OP Airdrop, which is around 60% of eligible users.

The two bar graphs depict the daily and cumulative amount of $OP claimed, in addition to the daily and cumulative number of $OP claimants. Both the daily amount of $OP claimed and the daily number of $OP claimants are significantly falling over time. In addition, we observed that on the first two days after the $OP airdrop started, a huge quantity of $OP and a high number of $OP claimants were claimed, indicating that the bulk of eligible users seem to be rushing to claim their $OP tokens.

The aforementioned graphs depict the distribution of claimed $OP amounts by claimant count and claimant count percentage. The majority of claimants are classed as Fish, with 51.1% of them claiming between 500 and 1,000 tokens. 26.8% of users are Octopus claimants, followed by 21.7% of Dolphin claimants. Consequently, this result reveals that $OP qualified users received the largest range of OP tokens between $500 and $1,000.

As can be observed in the aforementioned result, there are no $OP claimants still holding their $OP tokens that may be sent to DEXs or CEXs for sale.

The line graph depicts the daily $OP price. Following the launch of the $OP airdrop, the price of $OP may see a significant reduction over time. After July 27, 2022, however, the price of OP is predicted to reverse and reach a new all-time high of $1.9868 USD. From that moment on, the decreasing trend resumes.

According to the above data, there are 103k delegators, indicating that around 70% of $OP claimants have delegated their claimed $OP tokens to some kind of governance. Observing the daily number of delegators for those who claimed $OP tokens, we noticed that the pattern correlates to the daily quantity of $OP claimed: a fast decline over time. Similarly, we noticed that a significant quantity of $OP was allocated

    Summary

    • We have determined that about 159.8M $OP tokens, or approximately 74% of the total $OP airdrop for this round, have been claimed.
    • In addition, 150,5K wallets have already claimed $OP Airdrop, representing about 60% of eligible users.
    • A substantial amount of $OP and a large number of $OP claimants were claimed in the first two days after the $OP airdrop began, showing that the vast majority of eligible users seem to be rushing to claim their $OP tokens.
    • We discovered that clients eligible for $OP claimed the greatest range of OP token values between $500 and $1,000.
    • We determined that no $OP claimants are on hold of $OP tokens that may be sent to DEXs or CEXs for sale.
    • We observed that the pattern is rapidly declining over time, which corresponds to the daily amount of $OP claimed.
    • We discovered that a substantial amount of $OP was delegated on the first two dates after the $OP airdrop's launch.
    • We noticed that the majority of $OP claimants who delegated their $OP tokens are First-Time Delegators.

The pie chart on the left depicts the distribution of $OP claim delegators. We discovered that 76.4% of delegators are First-Time Delegators. First-Time Delegators - Self-Delegation account for 11.3% of delegators, followed by Re-delegation at 7.24%. This implies that the majority of $OP claimants who delegated their $OP tokens are First-Time Delegators.
