    What Is Avalanche?

Avalanche is a blockchain platform that, with the help of its distinctive Proof of Stake (PoS) method, seeks to resolve the blockchain trilemma of scalability, security, and decentralization. Similar to Ethereum, Avalanche allows the use of smart contracts to power decentralized apps (dApps) on its network. Avalanche intends to increase blockchain interoperability by integrating a variety of decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems, including well-known initiatives like Aave and Curve. This is possible since Avalanche's smart contracts are written in the same Solidity language that Ethereum uses. The Avalanche platform's native token, AVAX, is utilized to fuel transactions across its ecosystem. By paying fees, AVAX facilitates transactions on the network, participates in governance, and distributes system benefits.

    Methodology

    • Topic: Analyze Avalanche throughout the past 3 months, when markets were becoming volatile, to determine the network's speed and performance.
    • Metrics:
      • Transactions Per Minute (TPM)
      • Successful Transactions Per Minute (STPM)
      • Failed Transactions Per Minute (FTPM)
      • Transaction Fail Rate (TFR)
      • Transaction Sucess Rate (TSR)
    • Comparison networks: Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, NEAR, Optimism, and Flow.
    • Analysis:
    • We compute and display the distribution of successful and unsuccessful transactions for each program type.
    • We compute and display the distribution of successful and unsuccessful transactions within each project type accordingly.
    • We calculate and display the average and daily TPM, STPM, FTPM, TFR, and TSR for the Avalanche network during the last three months.
    • In the past three months, we have compared Avalanche's STPM and TFR against those of six other networks on a daily basis.

    Analysis I:

This section is intended to calculate and present the distribution of successful and failed Avalanche transactions by program type. Additionally, we depict the success and failure rates for each type.

The pie chart above depicts the distribution of successful transactions by program type. Dex type has the most successful transactions (47.3%). NFT has the second-highest number of successful transactions (16.2%), followed by Defi (15.8%). Layer2 has the fewest successful transactions, at just 6.3 percent.

The pie chart depicts the breakdown of failed transactions by program type. Dex has the highest percentage of failed transactions (93.5%). Defi has the second-highest percentage of failed transactions (3.62%), followed by NFT (1.38%). Token has the fewest unsuccessful transactions at 0.447 percent.

The chart above displays the success and failure rates for each type in the last 3 months

    • Dapp has the greatest success rate, followed by Token and NFT, in that order.
    • Dex has the highest failure rate, followed by Defi and NFT, in that order.

    Analysis II:

This section aims to compute and display the distribution of successful and unsuccessful Avalanche transactions by project. Moreover, graphical representations of each project's success and failure rates are provided.

The pie chart seen above illustrates the distribution of successful transactions across projects. At 43.1%, the Trader Joe project has the greatest number of successful transactions. The Chikn has the second-highest number of successful transactions, at 12.4%. 5.15 percent of Pangolin's transactions are successful, followed closely by 5.04 percent of Circle's transactions are successful.

The pie graphic depicts the distribution of unsuccessful transactions across projects. The Trader Joe project has the greatest number of unsuccessful transactions, at 73.6 percent. At 15.6%, the Pangolin project has the second-highest percentage of failed transactions. Curve Fi has 3.06 percent of its transactions fail, whereas Zeus Node Finance has 1.09 percent.

The above graph illustrates the success and failure rates for each project in July 2022.

    • Benqi Finance has the highest rate of success, at 99.81 percent.
    • The failure rate for Psyber-x is the greatest, at 60 percent.

    Analysis III:

This section will compute and provide the daily and average TPM, STPM, FTPM, TFR, and TSR for the Avalanche network during the past 3 months

The line graph represents the number of transactions per minute (TPM), successful transactions per minute (STPM), and failed transactions per minute (FTPM) on the Avalanche network during the last three months. As seen in the graph, TPM, FTPM, and STPM are likely to remain constant throughout time, with a peak on June 13, 2022. Here, we observed that STPM is much greater than FTPM, suggesting that the Avalanche network seems to function effectively under both typical and unusual conditions.

The line graph illustrates the daily successful transactions per minute (STPM) and daily transaction failure rate on the Avalanche network during the last three months. Both STPM and transaction failure rate exhibit a downward trend. Although the result indicates that STPM and transaction fail rate move in the same direction, the transaction fail rate seems to have frequent spike peaks, indicating that the decline in the successful transactions per minute (STPM) of the Avalanche network influences these spike peaks.

The line chart illustrates the daily failed transactions per minute (FTPM) and daily transaction success rate on the Avalanche network over the last three months. As observed in the graph, the FTPM tendency is very unstable over time, meaning that the Avalanche network had a significant number of failed transactions per minute from June 13 to July 2,2022. Moreover, the transaction success percentage is steadily falling, indicating that Avalanche seems to perform poorly from June 13 to July 2,2022.

The scatter graphs above show the TPM value, transaction success rate, and transaction fail rate, with the x- and y-axes corresponding to the hour and day of the week, respectively. Each week, the TPM has peaked in the afternoon on Monday, while the TPM on Sunday seems to be low. Similarly, we noticed that the Avalanche network had a low transaction success rate as well as a high transaction fail rate during the high TPM on Monday. The Avalanche network seems to function badly when exposed to high TPM, according to the findings.

    Analysis IV:

The purpose of this section is to compare Avalanche's STPM and TFR with those of the other six comparator networks on a daily and monthly basis during the past three months.

The bar chart illustrates the number of successful transactions per minute for each chain over the past three months. Avalanche has the second-lowest STPM throughout all months, and its STPM has reduced with time, when compared to other networks. In contrast, Solana has the highest STPM, with a rising trend over time.

The above bar chart displays the transaction failure rates for each chain over the last three months. In comparison to other networks, Avalanche has the fourth-lowest transaction fail rate in the first and third months and the fifth-lowest rate in the second month. However, Solana has the highest transaction failure rate during the first and second months, but this percentage is decreasing with time. Also, the NEAR third-month transaction failure rate is the highest.

The line chart depicts the daily STPM in each chain during the last three months. When compared to other chains, Avalanche has the second-smallest STPM, and its STPM trend seems to be slightly decreasing over time. Furthermore, Solana has the highest STPM, and the trendline seems to be highly stable over time. Except for Optimism, this result shows that Avalanche has a worse speed performance than the other networks.

The line graph shows the daily transaction failure rate in each chain for the past three months. The transaction failure rate of the Avalanche network is lower than that of Solana and NEAR, but greater than those of Optimism, Flow, Polygon, and Ethereum. Furthermore, beginning on June 13, 2022, the transaction failure rate of Avalanche is reducing over time. This research shows that Avalanche seems to manage failed transactions more well than Solana and NEAR.

    Conclusion:

This investigation examined Avalanche during the past three months, when markets were getting volatile, to assess the network's speed and performance, which are summarized below:

    • We discovered that the DEX protocol had the greatest success rate, whereas Dapp had the highest failure rate.
    • The Trader Joe project has the greatest success rate, while the Benqi Finance project has the lowest failure rate.
    • The average number of transactions per minute (TPM), successful transactions per minute (STPM), and failed transactions per minute (FTPM) have been determined to be 149.2, 134.6, and 14.57, respectively.
    • Furthermore, the average success rate and failure rate for transactions over the last three months are 90.2% and 9.76%, respectively.
    • Every week, the TPM seems to be at its most activity in the afternoon on Monday, and at its least active on Sunday. Furthermore, we saw a low transaction success rate as well as a significant transaction failure rate during the high TPM on Monday.
    • Avalanche has the second-lowest STPM throughout all months when compared to other networks, and its STPM has decreased through time.
    • Avalanche also has the fourth-lowest transaction fail rate in the first and third months, and the fifth-lowest rate in the second month.
    • We also discovered that Avalanche has a lower speed performance than the other networks, with the exception of Optimism.
    • Finally, we noticed that Avalanche seems to handle failed transactions better than Solana and NEAR.
