What Is NBA Top Shot?
A virtual trading card platform built on blockchain serves as the NBA's Top Shot offering. It resulted from a collaboration between Dapper Labs, the NBA Players Association, and the NBA. The platform is powered by the FLOW blockchain, which Dapper Labs designed as a "developer-friendly blockchain engineered to enable the next generation of games, apps, and digital assets."
The system ultimately functions just like trading cards, with the exception that it blends NBA clips with digital graphics. The NBA grants Dapper Laps a license to use reels, which it uses to produce Moments. The highlights of videos that have been connected to NFTs are called moments. Every single one has a special digital serial number that certifies its authenticity and expresses how uncommon the Moment is. Moments serve as the framework for the Top Shot ecosystem.
The team only produces a finite quantity of NFTs to create scarcity, just like with trading cards. This raises the value and rarity of particular Moments, respectively.
Question:
Create an analysis on NBA Top Shots moments and attempt to uncover any correlations between a specific category and sales volume.
This week, focus specifically on the play_type column in the flow.core.dim_topshot_metadata table. What play_types do users hold most, and how much volume in sales do these play_types generate? Include any other transactional metrics you can think of.
Methodology
- We analyze the number of completed transactions for each play type, calculating total, daily, and cumulative metrics.
- Total, daily, and cumulative metrics are calculated to determine how many users hold in each play type.
- We then investigate how much NFT sales volume is generated in these play types by measuring the total, daily, and cumulative metrics.
- Finally, we assess the total number of new user transactions, the number of new users, and the volume of NFT sales for new users
