Average Optimism Portfolio
đź“ś Background
Optimism is a layer 2 chain, meaning it functions on top of Ethereum mainnet (layer 1). Transactions take place on Optimism, but the data about transactions get posted to mainnet where they are validated. It’s like driving in a less crowded side street while benefiting from the security of a highway.
Optimism is the second-largest Ethereum layer 2 with a total of $313 million locked into its smart contracts, as of this writing, according to Defi Llama. Arbitrum comes first with $1.32 billion.
Optimism (OP) is the native token of Optimism, OP has a total supply of 4.294 billion. The OP token gives holders participation rights in The Optimism Collective, a two-tier governance system composed of Token House and Citizens’ House. Citizens’ House will come live later in 2022. Token House, which is already active, governs technical decisions related to Optimism, such as software upgrades. The Citizens’ House governs public-goods funding decisions. In its early days, Optimism itself raised funds on Gitcoin, a major public-goods funding platform.
The meaning of average portfolio in this dashboard is to analyze the transactions made by users in the Optimism network using OP token in different protocols and platforms, and research on popular projects in general and over time, and chech the changes in the volume and ratio of different actions, such as swapping, farming, staking and unstaking, bridging, NFT and other activities.
✍️Conclusion
The results of this dashboard show the most popular ones clearly in the charts.
In general, the results showed that the most popular protocol among all users of the Optimism network is Defi in terms of the number of transactions and Layer 2 in terms of the number of users.
In the second part of the dashboard, it is determined that the most popular project among all Optimism network users is based on the number of perpetual protocol transactions and the number of hop protocol users.
Also, the results showed that the most popular protocol among OP users is based on the number of Dex transactions and the number of Layer 2 users.
The most popular project among op users based on the number of transactions is Velodrome Finance and based on the number of users of Runiswap.
The most popular actions among OP users are Swap and Delegate respectively.
The results of the op user distribution section showed that 45.2% of the users have done only one transaction and 40.1% of users have done 2-5 transactions (85.3% of users have done under 5 transactions).

Data Source and Tables
To conduct our study, we are using blockchain data provided by Flipside Crypto. From their datasets, following tables are used:
optimism.core.fact_nft_sales
optimism.core.dim_labels
optimism.core.fact_event_logs
Methodology
We are using dim_lables
table to label different protocols that are used by users. We are also categorizing user actions based on their event names, for example if a transaction’s event has Delegate
in it, its categorized in Delegation category.
The most popular protocol in optimism based on the total number of transactions is defi and it has approximately 9.5 million transactions. After Andex with almost 4 million transactions, it is the second most popular protocol in terms of the number of transactions. But in terms of the number of users, the most popular protocol in optimism is layer 2 with 1.15 million users, followed by the dex protocol with 826 thousand users. In terms of the number of users, defi is optimistically the third most popular protocol.
You can see other popular protocols in donut charts based on the number of transactions and number of users. Also, in other graphs, the cumulative values of the number of users and the number of transactions of each protocol and their weekly changes are shown.
The most popular project in terms of the number of transactions in perpetual protocol optimism it is The number of transactions related to this project is 6.3 million transactions. Next is hop protocol with 2.5 million transactions. And it is in the third place of uniswap.
Other projects can be seen in the diagram. But the most popular project based on the number of users is hop protocol. The number of hop protocol users is 836 thousand. After that uniswap is located with 514 thousand users. Other popular projects can be seen in the donut chart in terms of the number of users. In other charts, you can see the weekly changes of these projects over time.
The first two parts of the dashboard were the reviews of the most powerful in the entire optimism network, but this part of the dashboard and the fourth price of the dashboard are related to users who have op tokens.
The most popular protocol in terms of the number of transactions among op users is dex with 1.5 million transactions. After that, layer 2 is the second protocol with 722 thousand transactions. But the most popular protocol among op users in terms of the number of users is related to layer 2 with 410 thousand users. After Andex with 331 thousand users, it is the second most popular protocol among op users in terms of the number of users. View the cumulative values of these protocols in line graphs based on the number of transactions and the number of users. Weekly changes are also displayed.
The most popular project among op users in terms of the number of transactions is velodrome finance. The number of transactions of this project is 794 thousand transactions.
After this project is uniswap. But the most popular project in terms of the number of users among op users belongs to uniswap with 177 thousand users, followed by velodrome finance with 61 thousand users. Other charts show the weekly changes in these projects.
These charts depicts the share of actions done in Optimism blockchain. These actions are extracted by looking into the event names of each transaction.
- If we exclude uncategorized actions (others), it can be seen that most actions are related to swapping.
- Delegation started on June 1st, as OP token been available.
- All the time, the swap has been the best action among network users. Next is Delegating as the most popular action.
The chart depicts the number of users and their ratio based on the number of transactions that they have done.
> 45.2% of the users have done only one transactions and 40.1% of users done 2-5 transactions (85.3% of users done under 5 transactions)
Simply put, this graph shows what types of protocols users used the most in each category in terms of the number of transactions.
- User with single transactions have mostly used Operator or L2 protocol types, which means they have either bridged their asset or claimed some airdrop.
- Users with 5 transactions or less, they mostly user L2 and DEX protocols.
Simply put, this graph shows what protocols users used the most in terms of the number of transactions. to no cause cluttering we are only examining the top protocols.
- As we guessed earlier, users with a single transaction
- Have used Optimism, which means an airdrop claim or delegation action.
- They also used Uniswap and Rubicon.
- User with less than 5 transactions, other than Optimism, they mostly used Uniswap.
- No user with more than 500 transactions have used Nested.
