Introduction

Optimism is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that can support all of Ethereum’s Dapps. Instead of running all computation and data on the Ethereum network, Optimism puts all transaction data on-chain and runs computation off-chain, increasing Ethereum’s transactions per second and decreasing transaction fees. Optimism, an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution, set up the airdrop to distribute OP tokens to reward users who have helped it grow and entice newcomers to join the network. The first phase of Optimism’s debut airdrop took place on May 31, but it was overwhelmed by demand, and the project scrambled to fulfill claims on a “turbulent” day. Optimism doled out tokens to 248,699 wallet addresses across the Ethereum and Optimism networks. Eligible users had to meet a variety of criteria, including being on the Optimism chain, voting on proposals or signing multi-sig wallets for top DAOs within the Ethereum ecosystem, and Gitcoin donors. In this dashboard, we want to check the status of the airdrop after a few months. We want to check that: How many users claimed optimism airdrop? How much of the total airdrop was claimed? How many wallets are still holding tokens from airdrop? How many users delegated their OPs?

    Method

As it mentioned in the intro, this analysis takes a div into the OP claiming activity and what users did with their OP airdrops.

    • Analysis sections:

      \

    > 1) OP claimed and unclaimed amount > > 2) OP claimers and eligible users > > 3) Post-airdrop: a) Hold or sold , b) delegate or not , c) top popular delegates > > 4) Price changes

    • The date of analysis: 2022-09-28
    • Database: optimism.core

    • According to the available data, the total amount claimed in OP airdrop is 158.7M.

    • In the donut chart above, you can see the amounts and percentages of claimed and unclaimed amounts. 73.9% of the amount is claimed, and 26.1% is unclaimed.

    • Also, in the regional diagram, the blue color shows the claimed amounts, and the orange color shows the unclaimed amounts. This chart shows that from the date of the airdrop until September 28, the dominant color of this chart is blue. As a result, the claimed amounts were more than the unclaimed amounts.

    • The above linear bar graph shows the daily changes in the claimed OP amounts. The black line in the chart shows the cumulative amounts of the total amount of airdropped OP, and at the bottom, you can see the blue line that shows the cumulative amounts of the claimed amounts. The difference between these two lines shows the unclaimed amounts. The bar section shows that in the early days of the airdrop, the claimed amounts were high, and gradually these amounts decreased.

The total amount for this airdrop is 214.7484M OP.

    • According to the available data, the total number of users claiming OP is 149.1K.

    • Donut and area charts show the number of claimers and eligible users. According to the donut chart, 60% of users claimed OP, and the other 40% are eligible but have not yet claimed. In the area chart, the blue color shows the users who have claimed the OP, and the orange color shows the eligible users who have not yet claimed it.

    • In the bar graph above, you can see the daily changes of the users who claimed, which shows that in the early days of the airdrop, more users claimed the OP, and in the following days, the number of these users decreased. In the linear part of this graph, the black line shows the cumulative values of the total eligible users, and the blue line shows the users who claimed the OP. The difference between these two lines shows eligible people who have not yet claimed.

The total number of eligible users for this airdrop is 248,699K.

This graph shows how many users held their OPs and how many users did not hold their OPs.

58.3% of users held their airdrop OPs, which are shown in gray in the donut chart above. The number of these users is 86797. But almost 24.9 percent (37138 users) of users did not hold their OPs and sold them (red color). Also, the blue color of the donut chart shows the users who used part of their airdrop, approximately 24,942 users.

In the blue-orange donut chart above, you can see the users who delegated or not. According to this chart, 63.7 percent (94,808) did delegate. Also, 36.3 percent (54069) did not delegate.

You can see the Top Popular Delegates in the donut chart on the right.

    Conclusion

The analysis showed that 149.1K users claimed Optimism airdrop, and almost 99.5K eligible users for this airdrop did not claim.

Approximately 158.7 million OP of the total airdrop amount was claimed, which is approximately 73.9% of the total airdrop amount. Also, 26% of the total airdrop amount was not claimed.

86,797 users still hold Airdrop OPs, which is approximately 58.3% of users who claimed OPs. Also, 37,138 users sold their OPs, which is approximately 24.9% of users who claimed OPs. 24,942 users used part of their OPs and held the rest in their wallets.

Also, this dashboard showed that 40% of people eligible for airdrop could not claim airdrop for any reason, and the amount of this unclaimed airdrop is approximately 55974015 million OP, which is 26.1% of the total amount of airdrop. Also, the price of OP has been decreasing after the airdrop payment, and the reason for that is probably the selling pressure of some users, and the market has generally been in a downward trend during this period.

The chart above shows the price of OP and ETH from the time of the airdrop until September 28. The blue color shows the average daily price of OP, and the orange color shows the average daily price of ETH. As you can see, on May 31, when the airdrop was given, the OP price was $1.73, but in the following days, you can see the price drop, which is probably due to sales pressure. This price drop continued until July 15 and reached the price of $0.49. But as you can see, since July 15, the price has been increasing, and this increasing trend continued until August 4, and the OP price reached 1.98, which is higher than the price at the time of the airdrop. After this date, it began a downward trend again. In the chart, you can compare the trend of OP price changes with ETH.
