STARS-OSMO IL Display

Now select a liquidity position, copy the tx_id, and paste it at the top of the page. ==Note: query will take 1-4 minutes to execute. Please be patient (:==

Immediately below you can see two charts that represent the impermanent loss of your selected liquidity position. The chart on the left shows the difference in value between the assets you used to establish your liquidity position and the current value of your position. In other words, it shows the value of the assets you used to mint your GAMM shares (LP tokens) vs the value of your GAMM shares. Blue is asset value, orange is GAMM share value. ==Value is denominated in OSMO.==

The chart on the right displays the percentage difference between the two lines on the left chart. This is your impermanent loss. If your impermanent loss is a negative number, it means you have gained value.

A brief discussion on Osmosis impermanent loss:

To keep it simple, imagine you have an amount of STARS and an amount of OSMO. On the one hand, you could hold those assets. On the other hand, you could provide the assets as liquidity for the STARS/OSMO pool. Your impermanent loss is the difference at any given time between the value you would have if you kept the assets and the value you would have if you used them to mint GAMM shares, aka LP tokens. For this display, value is denominated in OSMO.

The information displayed above takes into account swap fees and liquidity exit fees, since those are put directly into the pool. It DOES NOT take into account LP incentives or superfluid staking rewards, as those must be claimed by the user manually.

Something that most people don’t consider when thinking about IL is the staking rewards that could have been earned if they hadn’t supplied their assets as liquidity. In my estimation, the staking rewards that could have been earning cancel out the the LP incentives and superfluid staking rewards that assets earn in a pool. Thus, I believe the IL information above does fully and truly represent your impermanent loss, even though it doesn’t take into account incentives or superfluid staking rewards.
