FLOW Usage During the NBA Playoffs Bounty

Introduction:

NBA Top Shot is an NFT marketplace where sports fans can buy, sell and trade basketball video clips. Launched in 2020, NBA Top Shot is a partnership between the NBA and Dapper Labs, the creators of CryptoKitties. High-profile investors include the NBA legends Michael Jordan, Kevin Durrant and Klay Thompson.

This dashboard will investigate into this marketplace to analyze the effect of NBA conference finals (May 17th- May 29th) on NFT sales in this platform and identify the most effective team.

Methodology:

To do this analysis I used

• Flipside Crypto database
• flow.core.dim_topshot_metadata table
• flow.core.fact_nft_sales table

At first step we need to know what tokens are used to trade on NBA Top shot. To achieve this goal, I used to find distinct currency on

flow.core.fact_nft_sales table and limit my results to NBA top shot by placing a condition of collection contract (which is A.0b2a3299cc857e29.TopShot).

Query results showed we can use to Currencies to trade on this collection which are :

A.ead892083b3e2c6c.DapperUtilityCoin

and

A.1654653399040a61.FlowToken

(Dapper Utility Coin and Flow Token)

So I try to track this two token in NBA Top Shot trade Volume.

Here it is; NBA Top Shot Daily Sales volume.

as you see, Flow Token has so little role in payments and is absence during Conference Finals totally. Anyway, since May 1, 2022 NBa Top Shot trading volume was approximately (cuz of ignoring Flow tokens) between 194k dapper in June 9, and 902k dapper in May 6.

Now lets talk about our question:

Q: Analyze impact of NBA Conference Finals (May 17th- May 29th) on NBA Top Shot's volume

As you see in above bar chart, 3 first days of Conference Finals has a HUGE effect on volume and we see 75% growth in trading volume. Third day effect is the most and we see almost 60% of this 75% in May 19.

On the other hand, after third day, volume trend is downward and we cant see a major difference between rest days and other non-conference days.

Now lets check this period deeper:

Here I Just focus on conference days and ignore flow token in coding (cuz we see there is no payment with flow at this period of time)

Lets hold a non-basketball contest here!

We wanna know which one of these late competitors, size the number one place for trading volume.

At first step I analyze these teams in daily. As you see, there is no constant first grade ownership ratio!

At first day Celtics have the most volume but the day after that, they got last.

Most daily volume is for Warriors on May 22 with more than 29.8k and on the opposite side, Celtics have lowest daily volume (in last day) with 1610.

Now lets check who is the first one among theses lions?
