New Addresses

Q2. Draw a chart showing the number of new addresses every day on polygon (matic) network. New addresses are unique addresses that appeared for the first time in a transaction of Matic.

    Introduction

In this rather short dashboard, I will investigate the number of new addresses on a daily basis for Polygon. To do this, I will use the given definition for what a new address is - a unique address that has appeared for the first time in a Matic transaction.

How is Polygon doing in general?

Firstly, I thought it would be nice to have a look at how Polygon is looking like based on the TVL. Let's look at the data provided by DefiLlama.

What we can see here is that the transaction count has been following a rather downhill trend lately. The graph also shows that the number of unique addresses stayed pretty constant in the past few months - however, this is a good thing for Polygon. We can see that there are days with over 300k unique addresses - which is a big number! In order to see the number of new addresses even more clearly, let's look at the transaction count coloured by the number of unique addresses:

The visualisation of this data shows that lately there have been more new addresses compared to the number of new addresses in the past. We can see a lot more orange now - with days where there are a lot more new addresses being used than in May/June of last year. This is a great insight for Polyong - it seems like their network is growing on a daily basis!

    Conclusion

This Bounty investigated how many new addresses there are on the Polygon network. We have seen that even though the TVL seems to be on a downward trend, the number of incoming new users based on new unique addresses is a lot higher than at the same time last year. This shows that Polygon has significantly grown in the past year and that new users are still onboarding on the chain - great news for Polygon!

What we can see here is that the USD TVL seems to be on a slow but constant downhill trend for the whole past year. On the other hand, the Matic TVL has lately been on a growing upward trend, since about the end of 2021. Let's now look at how this compared to the number of new addresses on Polygon.
