stETH vs ETH
Q2. How has the price of stETH compared to ETH? Are there any events that triggered a big difference in price between the two tokens?
Introduction
For this Bounty, I will compare the price of stETH with the price of ETH. The biggest problem I faced while writing the query for this dashboard was the fact that I was unable to get the price chart for ETH - I'm not sure what is the issue, whether it's incomplete tables or something else. I was only able to get the price of WETH on Flipside, but I wanted to compare just ETH and not the wrapped version... Due to all of those reasons I decided not to plot any graphs, but analyse graphs from CoinStats.
Firstly, by looking at the data from the past week, we can see that stETH is de-pegged from ETH by quite a lot... We can see the price of stETH in orange (the peg), while ETH is in blue - right now, the price of stETH is $1722, whereas the price of ETH now is $1766, meaning that stETH is worth 0.975 ETH!
Let's look at the overall picture and increase the time frame to see where the de-pegging has started.
By looking at the one year chart, we can see that stETH has been pretty much always de-pegged from ETH. On some days the de-pegging was almost invisible, whereas on some days it was very noticeable. For example, during the Terra crash, stETH was worth around 0.976 ETH (on May 14th) and has not really recovered since...
Conclusion
I'm quite disappointed that I was not able to plot these graphs myself, however, this was caused by something outside of my control and I hope that the pictures provided here were sufficient for this Bounty.
In conclusion, we can see that stETH is quite de-pegged from ETH, but even if it's worth 0.99 ETH, users are still attracted to what LIDO has on offer, so this is not a very worrying outlook.
