Introduction

Thales is a protocol that allows for the creation of peer-to-peer parimutuel markets that anyone can join. A Parimutuel Market is a market where the collateral is locked in a pool and the final payout to participants is not determined until after the market-settling event finalizes. There are several types of markets, including Up and Down markets, ranged markets, exotic markets, and Overtime Markets.

Overtime markets is a fully on-chain sports AMM with Chainlink sports feeds, allowing users to bet on Soccer, Football, MMA, and Baseball. (Sources: FlipsideCrypto - Thalesmarket)

In this dashboard, we will be focused on the Overtime volume on Optimism. We will Analyze the total volume on Overtime Markets over the past two weeks to find out which games received the most activity, both in total users and total $ volume, and which sports are receiving the most bets in total dollar volume on a daily basis.

All Data presented in this dashboard are extracted from the past 2 weeks (10-24 AUG 2022)

• Soccer has the highest bet count with 793 bets while Baseball has the highest bet value.

Daily bet volume of each sports category varies through the past two weeks. It is reasonable because the excitement of approaching match day could increase volume of bets.

In the following charts, we can see cumulative bet amount and count by Sports category:

• MMA had the highest average bet amount by about $280 per bet.
• Soccer had the lowest average bet amount by about $88 per bet.

The Average bet on these two games are much higher (More than 10X) than other games:

• Boston Red Sox VS New York Yankees ($865.8 per Bet)
• Leon Edwards VS Kamaru Usman ($748.4 per Bet)

in the past two weeks, Baltimore Orioles VS Boston Red Sox had 2 games, both of them with 27 and 26 bets had the highest bet count and bettors among games during the past two weeks.

Methodology

First, The tokens used in betting transactions were identified by checking all token transfers to the main contract address: 0x170a5714112daeff20e798b6e92e25b86ea603c1

• Then, All identified tokens (sUSD, USDC, DAI, USDT) transfers were tracked within the past two weeks to have all bet transactions and calculate volume, bets, and bettors.
• In order to have Game information, the game contract creation data were decoded and the Game contract, Home and Away team, and game tag were extracted (Thanks to the great community of data analysts in FlipsideCrypto Discord).
• The Game name is constructed with the Home and Away team name. the last 4 digits of the game contract were added to the game name so we can differentiate games with the same names but different specifications and contracts.
• The extracted game tags were then manually labeled by Sports and Leagues.
• Each identified bet transaction needed to be related to an identified game. So, Token transfers to identified game contracts were identified and then based on transaction hashes that were identified previously from token transfers to the main contract address, the game specifications of each betting transaction were identified.
