Realms vs Snapshot

Building off previous recent bounties on Realms and Snapshot, create a dashboard that shows how Realms and Snapshot are growing and used in comparison to one another. Feel free to build off previous bounty work on these platforms.

    Intro:

Two various voting systems are investigated in this dashboard. The main concentrations of this dashboard are as below:

    • trends do you see between governance behavior between the two chains
    • Market share of users
    • Voting behavior on chains
    • proposals on chains
    • Whales participation on chains

This dashboard is kind a live dashboard with enabling reader to put the time frame of analysis to detailed investigation on the special time frame.

    Method:

    • Used table for Realms Solana-→ solana.core.fact_proposal_votes where GOVERNANCE_PLATFORM ilike '%realms%'

    • Whales on Realms Solana-→ select VOTER from ethereum.core.ez_snapshot where VOTING_POWER>100

    • Used table for Snapshot-→ ethereum.core.ez_snapshot

    • Whales on Snapshot-→ select VOTER from solana.core.fact_proposal_votes where VOTE_WEIGHT>50

    • Extra metrics-→

      1. Cumulative analysis
      2. Average vote per voter
    • Time frame-→ selected by reader with default time frame of 30 days

    Outcomes:

The general analysis of Snapshot and Realms are placed in this part.

    1. The number of votes, voters and proposals for Snapshot are all larger than Realms in the default time frame (30 days).

    2. The Snapshot contains various chains and this reason cause the main difference in the mentioned numbers.

    3. The highest application of Ethereum, Polygon and Avalanche as large networks that voted on the Snapshot made it larger than Realms on Solana.

    4. The average vote per voter is high on Realms in comparison with Snapshot that means the random voter on Realms is voted about 3.8 times and Snapshot voter has 1.91 vote on average.

    Outcomes:

    1. The daily voting performance indicates the increment of application for Snapshot right after August 20th and the voting performance on Realms is experienced its highest application on the second week of August in the last 30 days.

    2. The number of voters has the same pattern as number of votes so as can be seen the highest number of voters are coincided with dates on highest votes captured.

    3. The cumulative analysis is the best approach to find out the behavior of governance voting platforms. The sudden change in the slope of this diagram could be considered as break points.

    4. In the past month, the highest number of proposals on Snapshot represented on August 2nd with 503 and for Realms happened on August 9 with 85 proposals.

    5. The number of proposals on these two platforms are logical close together but voting records are very different in numbers as shown.

    Snapshot:

Snapshot is a decentralized voting system that allows users to create proposals and vote off-chain. This allows holders to vote without paying gas. Snapshot voting service is developed by Snapshot Labs. At the moment, not much information has been published about who is behind the Snapshot project; But there are rumors in social networks and various forums that the research and development department of the Balancer trading platform, i.e. Balancer Labs, is behind the curtain of this project.

The Snapshot service gives users a tool that they can use to customize their community management; Instead of using Discord or Google feedback, Snapshot allows users to manage in an organized way. Since data is stored outside the blockchain network, voting is more cost-effective.

    Realms DAO:

Dao stands for Decentralized Autonomous Organization. Generally speaking, the members of the Dao community present their suggestions for future operations and mechanisms and then vote these suggestions among the members; Proposals that reach a predetermined quorum of consensus will be approved and executed by smart contracts. A healthy and powerful system collects useful proposals, and in return, the value of the tokens of each member of this DAO increases. In this way, with the success of the protocol, token holders will also benefit.

realm is a Solana program launched by any DAO to support its governance through proposals and voting.

    Outcomes:

By the use of definition of whales by voting power of voter on each platform the outcomes of this part are:

    1. the share of Whales participation on Realms Solana is larger than Snapshot by the use of numbers.
    2. The voter types on Relams Solana in the past month are mostly Whales but on Snapshot most of the voters are ordinary users.
    3. The participation of Whales on various proposals on Snapshot is really close to ordinary users in the past month but for Realms on Solana, Whales has high participation by number of proposals.
    4. According to the outcomes of this part and definitions of Whales on each platform, the Whales are more powerful on Realms than Snapshot voting platform.
    5. The participation by voters with high voting power or Whales could Manipulate or direct into the way that they want.
