[ENS][Q14] Revenue Distribution

How much revenue has been generated from ENS name registrations since the airdrop? How much revenue has been generated from ENS name renewals since the airdrop? Create at least one visual depicting the relationship between these two revenue streams. How do you expect this dynamic to change over the next two years?

The weekly revenue values for Renewals may not be as impressive as revenue from new registrations.

    • Registrations vastly outpace renewal transactions, as the ENS project is still in an explosive growth phase.

    • Majority of users onboarded very recently, may never have needed to do a renewal.

But given the large number of new registrations happening this year and registration trends to continue, can we predict the number of possible renewals we could be seeing in the immediate following year(s)?

We can. By making clusters of all registered domains and their current expiry deadlines.

    • That's a huge cluster of expiries for 2022! Followed by clusters at 2026 and 2023 🤔
    • Why clusters in these specific years? Is this due to the registration durations selected by the recent users?

Durations >10 years have been ignored for sanity. Some enthusiasts have durations of centuries, some even millennias...

    • Spans of 1,2 and 5 years make up about 67% of the preferred minimum registrations.
    • 1 & 2 year participation adds up to a whopping majority of ~50%!
    • What all this eventually means is... There will be an ever-increasing set of renewals to be done over time.
    • As new/fresh participants continue registering each year, the possible renewal clusters in the successive years grow.
    • And so does the renewal revenue over time!

With the above figures and the growth visualization on hand...

    • The margin of difference in the Registration & Renewal revenues generated is day and night!
    • NOTE: ENS as a project is still pretty new, and majority of it's users may have joined late 2020 or in 2021 itself!

    Conclusion

    • As long as ENS remains in its massive growth/user acquisition phase, registration revenue will always dwarf renewal revenues by big multiples!
    • However, as time goes on, Renewals themselves will continue their frequency and growth.
    • With time, renewals themselves will likely contribute multi-millions to ENS' revenue.

Disclaimer: All of the above is of course dependant on the macro outlook. And acceptance/persistence of the crypto/blockchain technologies that enable ENS to flourish :) Not financial advice.
