$Ape (Staking) In late 2022
$APE Staking
ApeCoin holders should be aware of three key dates:
- Dec. 5, 2022: The staking site goes live and pre-deposits begin
- Dec. 5-7, 2022: $APE contract is funded
- Dec. 12, 2022: First $APE rewards are accrued
The pre-deposit period allows $APE holders a reasonable amount of time to stake their tokens and/or NFTs and avoid a potential gas war. Thus anyone who deposits during the pre-deposit period, regardless of time, will be eligible for the same reward accrual starting on Dec. 12.
ApeCoin staking will primarily take place on ApeStake.io.
However, there are three potential ways to stake $APE, as indicated by an update from Horizen Labs on Nov. 23.
- Open-source smart contracts
- Front-end interfaces
- Third-party interfaces
Those who own Yuga Labs NFTs, like Bored or Mutant Apes, can also stake their NFTs as part of the Horizen Labs staking launch. These holders will need to take part in a "commit process" before the staking of their NFT is allowed.
To complete the commit action, each NFT owner will need to:
- Own the NFT(s) at the time of staking
- Commit with $APE
- Designate mapping for the Paired Pool (if applicable)
ApeCoin rewards, known as $APE staking emissions, will represent 17.5 percent of the total supply of the token and be distributed over a three-year period.
In the first year of staking, 100 million $APE will be released across all the staking pools.
There are four primary staking pools, to which holders of the Yuga Labs NFTs and $APE will have access.
Note that all pools require at least some amount of $APE. The four pools, and their respective first-year token allocations, are below:
- BAYC Pool: 47,105,000 tokens (47.1%)
- MAYC Pool: 30,000,000 tokens (30%)
- BAYC/MAYC + BAKC Paired Pool: 19,060,000 tokens (19.06%)
- $APE-only Pool: 3,835,000 tokens (3.83%)
There are staking caps in place as well, to be voted upon by the ApeCoin DAO ahead of each staking period. For the first staking period, those caps are as follows, on a per NFT basis:
- BAYC: 10,094 $APE
- MAYC: 2,042 $APE
- BAKC: 856 $APE
Thus a holder with three BAYC can stake and earn rewards on no more than 30,282 $APE.
Staking rewards will be provided directly proportional to the amount of staked $APE in each pool. Participants are incentivized to own the highest percentage possible within a pool, to reap the maximum rewards. Those participants are also incentivized to be staked within each pool for the maximum time.
there is an incentive mechanism to reward those who stake $APE early over future stakers. Thus the most $APE will be earned in the first 90 days of each staking period and will decrease each quarter until the end of the three-year staking period.
The staking allocations and caps will be re-evaluated after the first staking period (Year 1), ahead of future staking periods.
Staked $APE balances will not be dynamically increased, thus those who want to increase their staked balance with rewards will be required to un-stake and re-stake.
$APE Coin
$APE is an Ethereum token with a total supply of 1 billion. Initially, 62% of the total supply of ApeCoin is allocated to the ApeCoin community, with a portion claimable by BAYC (Bored Ape Yacht Club) NFT holders.
ApeCoin is billed as a “token for culture, gaming, and commerce used to empower a decentralized community building at the forefront of web3.
First and foremost, it’s important to note the new players in the BAYC ecosystem. The newly founded ApeCoinDAO is the creator behind the launch of ApeCoin, not Yuga Labs or the Bored Ape Yacht Club. ApeCoinDAO exists to give $APE token holders a vote on fund allocations, governance rules, projects, partnerships, and beyond. Holding ApeCoin is the only requirement for membership in the ApeCoinDAO.
The ApeCoinDAO is also supported by the Ape Foundation. The Ape Foundation is not the overseer of ApeCoin, but more of the steward of $APE. The foundation will act as the base layer upon which ApeCoin holders in the ApeCoinDAO can build.
The Ape Foundation will utilize the Ecosystem Fund, which is controlled by a multisig wallet. This fund will be used to pay expenses as directed by the ApeCoinDAO and provides an infrastructure for ApeCoin holders to collaborate through open and permissionless governance processes.
Finally, a special council on the Ape Foundation (the Board) will provide oversight of the Foundation administrators. The purpose of the Board is to administer DAO proposals and serve the vision of the community. It meets on proposals requiring administrative review under ApeCoinDAO rules.
The initial Board will serve for a term of six months, after which the ApeCoinDAO will vote on new members annually. Currently, the council consists of Alexis Ohanian (co-founder of Reddit, general partner and founder of Seven Seven Six), Amy Wu (head of ventures & gaming at FTX), Maaria Bajwa (principal at Sound Ventures), Yat Siu (co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands), and Dean Steinbeck (president and general counsel at Horizen Labs).
$APE Coin Airdrop
On March 17, at 8:30 a.m. ET, 15% of the total supply of $APE coins has been available to those who owned an original Bored Ape or a Mutant Ape NFT. Holders of Bored Ape Kennel Club Dogs will need to own either an Ape or Mutant to participate.
Method
In this dashboard, I am going to provide some useful data abot $APE staking and also analyze $APE staking actions since its debut.
The main table that I am going to use for this dashboard is Flipside’s ethereum.core.fact_event_logs.
- $APE Coin Contract Address: 0x4d224452801ACEd8B2F0aebE155379bb5D594381
- $APE Coin Staking Contract Address: 0x5954aB967Bc958940b7EB73ee84797Dc8a2AFbb9
- There are 4 staking pools for $APE:
- $APE Coin Only Origin Function Signature: 0x9dcaafb4
- BAYC Origin Function Signature: 0x46583a05
- MAYC Origin Function Signature: 0x8ecbffa7
- BAKC Origin Function Signature: 0xd346cbd9
- There are 4 staking pools for $APE:

- The following stats were all last updated on Jan 11th of 2023, as you can see the amount of not eligible $APE for NFT paired pools is about 157M.
- The total eligible $APE for all the mentioned pools are; BAYC pool=7.57M, MAYC pool=3.3M and BAKC pool=338k.
- The pools APY is about 1089, 1009, 1985 and 33 for BAYC, MAYC, BAKC and $APE only respectively.
- The MAYC and BAYC pools have $APE shortfall and their shortfall is about 36.4M and 93.4M in order.
-
Here in the second part of the dashboard we have the overall stats of the pools, the first column graph tells us the total number of stakes and staker’s in all four different pools. In $APE only we have 23.65k stakes and 7260 staker’s, in MAYC we have 12.84k stakes and 4372 stakers, in BAYC we have 8942 stakes and 2424 stakers and finally in the fourth spot we have 5085 stakes and 2155 stakers.
-
Based on the volume info of the second column graph the total staked volume of each pool is about 67.38M for $APE only pool, 36.84M for BAYC, 15.18M for MAYC and 3.22M for BAKC. Only the minimum stake volume of all four are equal and they are all 1.
-
In the three pie charts above we have the distribution of stakes on each pool based on first stakes count, second by stakers count and finally by stakes volume.
In all three charts we have the $APE only pool in the first spot with 46.8% of stakes based on stakes count, 44.8% of stakes based on stakers count and 54.9% of stakes based on stakes volume.
-
The final distribution shows us the stake transaction volume on each pool and here we can see that $APE only and BAYC have more expensive transactions than the other pools, in $APE only we have 0.35% of the transactions above 100k $APE and in BAYC we have 0.08% of the transactions above 100k $APE.
- In the first column form on the left bellow we have the rewards of each pool breakdown by quarter and the first quarter which has the most amount of reward, puts BAYC in the highest spot with 16.48M and BAKC in the fourth spot with the lowest amount of 1.3M.
- The annual APY of each pool in different quarter is shown in the middle column graph with assumption of 80% staked, as you can see we have in all 4 quarters BAKC with the most APY and $APE with the least APY.
- The actual and realistic APY of the pools in all four quarters are shown in the final column graph on the right and similar to the 80% assumption we can see that $APE only is in the final spot but as of the first three spots we have BAYC, MAYC and BAKC in the first to third spot respectively.
Daily and Over-Time Stats
- The first column form says the average number of stakes and stakers per pool in one hour, The highest numbers once again belong to $APE only pool with 26.7 stakes and 25.5 stakers, among the pools BAKC has the lowest columns with 5.9 stakes and 4.6 stakers in one hour.
- The average hourly staked volume on each pool is 76.3k, 41.8k, 17.2k and 3.7k for $APE only, BAYC, MAYC and BAKC respectively.
- The third column graph shows the daily number of stakes on each pool over time and as you can see the highest number of stakes happened on Dec 12th of 2022 and on the final day Jan 11th of 2023, we had barely over 500 stakes.
- In the daily volume of stakes per each pool we can see that the highest volume took place on Dec 12th (same as the daily number of stakes) and on the final day Jan 11th of 2023 the overall volume was almost near 1M.
- In the following column graph we have the daily number of stakers and here again we have the highest column on Dec 12th of 2022 and the total number of stakers on the final date is about nearly 500.
- The daily average volume of each pool also shows Dec 12th at the first spot, after that the two normalized graphs show us the daily number of stakes and volume for each pool in %wise. With a quick scan we can see that $APE only is dominant in both normalized forms.
- The cumulative number of stakes on each pool reaches over 50k on Jan 11th, needless to say that $APE only has the biggest share between the pools. In the final cumulative form over time we have the volume of stakes per each pool and also here $APE only gets placed in the first spot.
Stakers Stats
- The highest average of number and volume of stakes per staker belongs to BAYC pool as you can see and $APE only pool is in the second place, then we have MAYC and BAKC in the third and fourth place respectively.
- In the next graph we have distribution of $APE stakers by their total stakes count and here we see in all of pools one time stakers conclude the largest share of each pool but the biggest segment of “more than 5 times” belongs to BAYC pool. Also BAYC has the largest “5 times” segment, this clearly is one of the reasons why BAYC has the highest average of stakes per stakers.
- The next distribution divide’s the stakers by their total staked volume and the highest 10k-100k $APE staked amount belongs to BAYC pool as you can see.
- In the following four column graphs we see the top ten stakers of each pool by their volume of stakes.
- For the first spot of $APE only we have 4.6M, for BAYC top spot we have 2.47M, for BAKC first spot we have 32.5k and finally for the first spot of MAYC we have 788.2k worth of staked volume respectively.
-
Ape price since Dec 13th of 2022 till Jan 11th of 2023 is shown in the left side graph and on the final hour, 08:00 of Jan 11th , the price of $APE was about 4.8.
-
In the $APE staking pools distribution by their $APE amount we can see that the biggest pool is BAYC with 47.1% of the total $APE amount and after that we have the MAYC, BYAC/MAYC+BAKC paired pool and $APE-only pool respectively.
-
The amount of $APE staking caps per NFT stats show that again BAYC is in the first spot with 77.7% of the total amount and MAYC and BAKC come in the second and third place in order with 15.7% and 6.5% share of total amount. (the pie charts bellow were last updated on Jan 11th of 2023).
-
In the column form on the left after pie charts we have the early staking benefits of the $APE and clearly the biggest segment goes to first 91 days in the first year and the least amount belongs to the final 90 days of the 3rd year.
-
In the final cross pool allocation we have the first quarter with the highest amounts ,in all of the quarters we can see that we have BAYC, APE-pool, MAYC and BAKC pool in the first to fourth positions respectively.
In the first quarter we have BAKC in the first spot with 16.48M and after that the other three pools come in the next spots with 10.5M, 6.67M and 1.34M.
Conclusion:
- In this article we have the $APE stake situation during late 2022 and early 2023, in the first section we have the $APE price on Jan 11th 08:00 almost 4.8 and the most share of $APE is allocated on BAYC pool which concludes 47.1% of the total $APE amount based on the pie chart in the first sections.
- The most amount of rewards given by each pool in all four quarters, belong to BAYC pool and after that we have $APE only, MAYC and BAKC in the following positions with the most rewards respectively. The actual annual APY amount of each pool in all four quarters are shown in the final graph of the first section and in all quarters we have BAYC in the first spot and $APE only in the last spot as you can see.
- despite the amount of reward given by BAYC, we can see in the next section that the most number of stakes and stakers belong to $APE only and here we have also the most volume of stakes on $APE only pool.
- The most average number of stakes and stakers in a hour belongs to $APE only and also the highest average volume goes to $APE only pool. in the following column forms we can see that the highest number of stakes, stakers and volume of stakes took place on Dec 12th of 2022.
- In the final sections we can see that despite the high numbers of stakes and stakers on $APE only, the highest average of stakes per staker belongs to BAYC pool because of the high number of “5 time stakers” and “more than 5 time stakers”.
- Based on the information we gained in different sections of this article we can understand that $APE only is a pool friendly to those who start staking $APE and BAYC pool takes a more professional approach and has more stakers with number of high value stakes in its pool, not to mention that the rewards of BAYC is more than any other pool studied in this dashboard.
