Transaction Fees
How many transaction fees are being paid out each day for the past 30 days? Does a certain type of transaction result in a greater amount of fees being collected?
Introduction and methods
Osmosis is a network that not only provides service to projects connected through the Interblockchain Communication Protocol (IBC), but also Acts as an AMM (Automated Market Maker), that is, a decentralized exchange, in which we can exchange coins from the networks to which it connects.
In this analysis, we will calculate the amount of transaction fees that have been paid out each day for the past 30 days. In addition, we will try to assess a certain type of transaction that results in a greater amount of fees being collected.
It is clear that an increment of the fees was observed during second week of May, it is possible due to the event on Terra about the depegging of its stablecoin UST. DUring that week, the daily fees passed from no more than 400 to more than 1500 in the maximum peak. However, after the May 14th, the fees returned to the normal numbers.
It is important to know that the major of the fees generated during the UST event was paid due to failed transactions. In fact, if we take into account the accumulate numbers since the start of the evaluated period, there have been around 8k in fees by succeded transactions, while more tahn 5k have been paid in failed transactions, representing 39% of them.
Now, we will see the distribution of transactions by the type of transasctions.
Again, it can be seen the increase on the transactions fees during the second week of the month of May. In this case, the top 5 trasnaction types in terms of fees have been:
- Message
- Normal tx
- Coin spent
- Coin received
- Transfer
The distribution of these transaction types over time not vary so much, when some of them increase, the others to the same.
Conclusions
In this dashboard, we have analyzed the Osmosis transaction fees in different approaches. The first one in general terms, then splitted by transaction status and finallly by type of transaction.
The main results have been the following:
- It has bee observed an increment of the fees during second week of May
- 39% of the fees was paid due to failed transactions
- The top 5 trasnaction types in terms of fees have been: Message, Normal tx, Coin spent, Coin received, Transfer.
