    Summary

    Here are some interesting findings:

    • Factory projects have the highest number of collections, tokens minted and total number of sales as well as the longest mint duration in days.
    • Curated projects have the highest average sale price (USD)
    • Playground projects have the lowest number of sales

When looking at the top artists by number of sales, the top 3 are all from factory projects. Looking at the top artists by sale price (USD), all of them have participated in a curated project even though some of their high sale price collections are from playground projects.

    Background

There are 3 different status of a project on Art Blocks:

    • Factory: artists who do not wish to wait for approval by the Curation Board can get a place to launch their art here.
    • Curated: this is the official Art Block endorsed collection.
    • Playground: once an artist successfully finished a curated project, he/she can use playground to deploy a collection of their own choice.

    Overview

The total number of collections and tokens minted is the highest for "Factory", which is not surprising given any artist whose projects are not approved to be "curated" can launch them in factory.

The curated collections and tokens are more than the playground. This is also expected because an artist can only participate in the playground after finishing the curated projects. Some artists might not have launched any new projects after the curated project.

The average sale price is the highest for curated projects, followed by playground and factory projects. Although the total number of sales of factory projects is the highest, the price is the lowest.

The average mint duration is the highest for factory projects (26 days) whereas the curated project only has 14 days. There are no obvious differences in the average number of features or traits from a collection among the 3 series.

    Difference among artists

The top 3 selling artists in terms of average price are:

    • Dmitri Cherniak > (1) Curated project: Ringers (USD 27k) > (2) Playground project: The Eternal Pump (USD 92k)
    • Tyler Hobbs > (1) Factory project: Fidenza (USD 43k) > (2) Curated project: Fidenza (USD 43k)
    • Zeblocks > (1) Curated project: Beatboxes (USD 17k) > (2) Playground project: Beatboxes (USD 17k) > (3) Factory project: Unigrids (USD 9k)

It is interesting to see the top artist Dmitri Cherniak has participated in the playground after the curated project and the playground project sells at a much better price

The second top artist Tyler Hobbs seems to have brought his factory project to be the approved curated project; whereas Zeblocks continued his curated project in the playground and got a higher sale price than the factory project.

The highest number of tokens minted is from the famous curated project Chromie Squiggle by Snowfro. The other high number minted tokens all concentrate in factory projects.

The top 3 selling artists in terms of number of sales are all from the factory projects.

    • Jason Ting x Matt Bilfield (Transitions with 14.5k sales)
    • Rvig (Flowers with 12k sales)
    • K0ch (2 collections: Origami Dream 335 sales & Unknown Signals 10k sales)

The number of resale is calculated as the total number of sold tokens divided by the number of tokens minted. There is no significant difference in the average number of resale among the 3 series.
