DAI VOLUME

This dashboard tries to answer two questions: 1.) How does the daily volume of DAI transactions compare to other stablecoins? 2.) What is DAI most used for?

How does the daily volume of DAI transactions compare to other stablecoins?

We compared DAI with other major stablecoins, including BUSD, TUSD, USDC, and USDT. In the following figures, we will compute:

    • Daily stablecoin volume overtime
    • Daily cumulative stablecoin volume overtime
    • Cumulative volume for each stablecoin
    • Stablecoin volume distribution

    Conclusion:

1.) DAI is the third of its kind with 15 percent of total volume which around 1.35T.

2.) The cumulated volume is still growing.

2.) DAI strongly sticks to the trend with respect to the other major stablecoins.

How is DAI most used for?

The graph below shows the event distribution for each stablecoin.

Even though DAI has a smaller order of magnitude for transfer event count, the approval event count has the same order of magnitude as USDC and USDT which are much bigger in the total number of events.

The rest of the figures will show the distribution of the DAI's event count which include:

    • DAI Event count distribution
    • DAI transfer event distribution
    • DAI approval event distribution

Figure 1: This graph shows the daily stacked volume of the stablecoins. The peak of the volume is around 70B.

Figure 2: This figure show the cumulated volume of each stablecoin. DAI has total volume around 1.35T, while total volume of all major stablecoins is around 9T.

Figure 3: Even DAI is the third of its kind, it has the same order of magnitude in volume as USDC and USDT.

Figure 4: The distribution of each stablecoin. USDT and USDC are the first and the second which are around 40 percent. DAI has 15 percent of cumulated volume which are the third.

Figure 5: This graph shows the 30-day moving average to illustrate the trend of each stablecoin. DAI strongly sticks to the overall trend except for around Jan 2022, which reach more than half of the daily volume.

Figure 6: The DAI main event is transfer which is around 10M count.

Figure 7: Transfer is the main event of DAI which is around 90 percent of total event count.

Figure 8: This chart shows the transfer action distribution. Transfers action is the highest count which is about 40 percent of the total transfer event count.

Figure 9: This chart shows DAI's approval event action distribution. Approve action is about 60 percent of all approve event count.

    Conclusion:

    • Transfer event is the major used for DAI.
    • The number of the approve event is the same as USDT and USDC, even though the total number of the total event count is much smaller.
