Osmosis Hot Contracts
Introduction
Being built upon cosmos SDK, Osmosis has attracted a lot of eyes and TVL lately. They are one of the most important building blocks of Cosmos IBC and it seems their future vision will be prosperous and successful. Osmosis is Layer 1 blockchain that presents itself directly as a DEX. different products can be built upon it but right now it mostly consists of Pools of different pairs.
In this analysis, I want to see whether or not Osmosis has grown in the past 10 weeks in terms of new contracts deployed and what the reason could be?
Methodology
What are we going to see:
- Top 10 Contracts on Osmosis
- New Contracts deployed
- Cumulative Figure of Osmosis growth
- The possible reason for assumed growth
Time-wise, we are bound to the period starting from May 2022.
Since Osmosis contracts are mostly Pools, I did bound the concept “Contract” to Pools and condone other possible contracts. Also, it should be noted that I used the minimum block timestamp recorded for the pool as its deployment date.
Among Pools that were initiated after May 2022, these pools are in the top 10 based on the number of transactions. What pair does each pool represent?
Pool #1 (ID 1) - ATOM/OSMO
Pool #2 (ID 678) - USDC/OSMO
Pool #3 (ID 560) - USTC/OSMO
Pool #4 (ID 561) - LUNC/OSMO
Pool #5 (ID 722) - EVMOS/OSMO
Pool #6 (ID 497) - JUNO/OSMO
Pool #7 (ID 608) - LUM/OSMO
Pool #8 (ID 565) - LUNC/ATOM
Pool #9 (ID 5) - DVPN/OSMO
Pool #10 (ID 498) - ATOM/JUNO
The only asset among these top 10 that was initiated after May is EVMOS. This suggests that none of the newly deployed pools are large and significant.
But it can’t be denied that Osmosis is growing as DEX based blockchain. Looking at its cumulative deployed pools we can clearly see this trend
Conclusion
It is hard to say if the terra crash had a significant impact on new Osmosis pools since it hasn’t been that much time after the crash. Usually, it takes weeks to research and decide on a new home (assuming terra projects are coming to Osmosis), and building new contracts are another thing!
Maybe another one or two months later we can assess these metrics better. Like the case with Levana where they recently announced they will be launching their option and perpetual swap protocol on Osmosis but it probably takes weeks to happen.
If I had to mention a reason for this growth, I would have mentioned the total tendency of the market towards cosmos SDK in general, which will drive more capital and users to adopt Osmosis in the short and long term.
