Observations
- There were two major spikes in active users on Perpetual protocol one one May 1st and the second on June 20th.
- On june 20th the the number of interactions on Perpetual protocol shot up from a few hundred per day to a few thousand per day.
- A few contracts have the vast majority of the protocols interactions and users

What is Optimism?
Optimism is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that can support all of Ethereum's Dapps. Instead of running all computation and data on the Ethereum network, Optimism puts all transaction data on-chain and runs computation off-chain, increasing Ethereum's transactions per second and decreasing transaction fees.
What are Perpetual contracts?
What is a perpetual contract? A perpetual contract is a derivative financial contract that has no expiration date or settlement, allowing it to be held or traded for an indefinite amount of time.
What is Perpetual Protocol?
Perpetual Protocol works similar to a centralized exchange. The main difference is instead of the exchange providing the liquidity for user's profits/losses, the money is collected in digital vaults that are ran by smart contracts and trigger every time a user wants to deposit and withdraw an asset.
Methodology
In this dashboard we are looking to see the activity of Perpetual Protocol on Optimism. To measure activity we will look at users and interactions on the protocol. The data for this dashboard will come from the optimism.core.fact_event_logs
, optimism.core.fact_token_transfers
, and optimism.core.dim_contracts
tables from Flipsideās database. The clearing house protocol is not included in the first section of the dashboard.

Observations
- All of the perpetual protocol events include the vUSD token.
- Other than vUSD the 3 most popular tokens in terms of events are vETH, vAPE, and vAAVE
- Other than vUSD the 3 most popular tokens in terms of Users are vETH, vBTC, and vAVAX
- Since mid april there has been 1K - 3K active users each week making between 200K and 1M position changes.

- Top Protocol Users
- All of the top 30 perpetual protocol users have over 30K position changes
- The top 30 users make up 2/3rds of all the activity on the platform
- as time has gone on the top users are making up a smaller percent of all activity on the platform
