Inactive State of Ethereum

This dashboard analyzes the inactive and throwaway smart contracts on Ethereum. Smart contracts on Ethereum are depreciated due to migrations, hacks, and a general lack of use. As a result, the Ethereum blockchain potentially stores hundreds and if not thousands of depreciated smart contracts that cannot be removed from state due to the blockchain's immutability.

    Methodology

First, I identified the percentiles of days contracts go without a single transaction.

Then, I identified the number of migrated contracts by finding new contracts with names V2, V3, etc. appended to them.

Nearly 1.8 million smart contracts on Ethereum have not seen a transaction for more than 2,000 days. This leads to a lot of state waste on the blockchain.
