Optimism Bridge Bounties: Distinct Wallets (Optimism Bridge)

    Q1. Many blockchain bridges exist allowing users to move assets between different blockchains. One of the blockchains currently receiving a lot of bridge volume is Optimism. There are several bridges you can use to move tokens to Optimism, but for this bounty we are particularly interested in Optimism’s bridge. How many distinct wallets have deposited or withdrawn ETH to Optimism via the native bridge in the last 60 days? Visualize your findings.

    Optimism bridges

    Optimistic Ethereum is an EVM compatible Optimistic Rollup chain. It's designed to be fast, simple, and secure. The Optimistic Ethereum network lets you send transactions, similar to Ethereum, but with two important advantages:

    • Near-instant transaction finality. You know almost immediately if your transaction took place or not.
    • Much lower transaction fees. Typically between a 1% and 10% of of the cost on L1.
    • Decentralization. All transactions are posted to L1 Ethereum, inheriting the strong security guarantees of Ethereum

    Optimism has several bridges that you can use to move tokens from L1 <--> L2 such as:

    1. Optimism Native Bridge
    2. Multchain
    3. Hop
    4. Zapper
    5. PolyBridge
    6. ...

    Nevertheless, in this report we are going to focus on Optimism Native Bridge

    Approach and methodology

    In this report we are going to identify how many distinct wallets have deposited or withdrawn ETH to Optimism via the native bridge in the last 60 days. In order to get the results I will follow the steps explained below:

    1. Identify Optimism native bridge contract address

      1. 0x99c9fc46f92e8a1c0dec1b1747d010903e884be1 --> standard speed ;
      2. 0x52ec2F3d7C5977A8E558C8D9C6000B615098E8fC --> wrap speed
    2. Filter ethereum.core.ez_eth_transfers table with the contract address below to get the data required.

      1. Distinct wallets who have deposited and withdrawned ETH.

      2. USD amount deposited and withdrawned.

    Results

    First of all let's have a look into the distinct wallets that have deposited in the last 60 days.

    • This chart represents the daily and cumulative number of distinct wallets that deposited ETH through the Optimism native bridge in the last 60 days.
    • A downward trend can be observed. Except for May 31st and June 1st where a lot of distinct wallets used the Optimism Native Bridge to deposit ETH.
    • The day with more distinct wallets was on June 1st with 4663 wallets
    • In 60 days +29k distinct wallets have used Optimism Native Bridge to deposit ETH.

    • This chart represents the daily and cumulative USD amount that was deposited by wallets who used Optimism Native Bridge. We only took into consideration wallets who have deposited ETH.
    • Follows the same trend as the chart below.
    • More than $146 M have been deposited using Optimism.
    • The day with more amount of deposits was on June 1st with +$25 M.
    • This chart represents the daily and cumulative number of distinct wallets that withdrawned ETH through the Optimism native bridge in the last 60 days.

    • A stabilised trend can be observed in this chart. Except for June 8th, 9th 10th and 11th where they registered the 4 days with more distinct wallets withdrawing ETH from Optimism Native Bridge.

    • The day with more distinct wallets was on June 8th with 47 wallets

    • In 60 days 529 distinct wallets have used Optimism Native Bridge to withdrawn ETH.
