Solana Bounties: Solana Free Square

Q86. This week we want to try something new. We want you to essentially write your own bounty question and answer it yourself. Pick any topic around Solana that you find relevant and interesting and analyze it.

    Proposed question

The extremely low fees and fast transactions per second (TPS) compared to other blockchains are one of the key benefits for Solana users. So in this dashboard I will create a visual representation of the daily transaction fees and transactions per second. In this way we will be able to see the outstanding capabilities of solana compared to other types of blockchains such as EThereum.

    Approach

As explained one of Solana's main features is its speed compared to other blockchains as low transaction fees. Solana's official website mentioned that they have a block-time of 400 milliseconds. Blockchain performance is usually measured in Transactions per Second (TPS).

Related to transactions I am going to calculate:

    1. Daily TPS on February 2022 (Vote transactions included)
    2. Daily TPS on February 2022 (Vote transactions excluded)
    3. Distribution of Successful TPS vs Failed TPS

Related to transactions I am going to calculate:

    1. Daily and cumulative fees
    2. Fees per transaction
    3. Min, Max and average fees per day

    Transaction analysis

Since Solana is a proof-of-stake blockchain, it has validators that send out votes to validate the blockchain. On Solana, votes are sent like regular transactions in Solana. Thus, we will be looking at the TPS on Solana, with and without the vote transactions.

    • We can see two drops on TPS on January 22nd and 23rd. They have been having some blackouts.
    • From the start of January until April they have had some consistency on TPS.
    • From April to today they are registering less TPS probably due to markey crash.

It's worth mentionig that they have been having some blackouts and some issues with the blockchain.

    • If we exclude the votes we can see a clearly downward trend from January to April.
    • From April until today seems that they reversing the trend. They are starting to register more TPS.

If we normalize the successful and failed TPS from above, we can observe the data in a percentage manner.

    • It can be observed that from January to April they had more succesful transactions per second than from April to today. The market crash might be the reason.

    • This chart reprsents daily and cumulative fees per transaction.
    • This chart follows the same trend that transaction per seconds. As it is know, both metrics are strongly related.
    • It shows a clearly downward trend until April where the fees started to get higher. However, compared to other blockchains they still low. Aproximately Ethereum has 0,005 eth fees per transaction.

    • This chart represents the daily transactions per second (TPS) fees.
    • This chart has a stable trend although we can see some peaks during April. Where Solana was having the lowest values of TPS.

    • This charts represents daily MAX, MIN and AVG fees.
    • Looks like a standard chart, except for extremly MAX fee on 8th July with 0,001005 SOL. This happened beacuse on 7th July Solana had to restart the blockchain.
