Introduction:

In the burgeoning world of blockchain technology, the NEAR blockchain has been gaining attention for its potential. With a myriad of projects sprouting on its network, it is imperative to analyze these active projects in order to understand the dynamism and innovation within the NEAR ecosystem. Our objective is to delve into the NEAR blockchain and scrutinize the various projects, with a particular focus on their smart contract interactions and recent activities. Such an analysis is geared towards providing valuable insights into the current project ecosystem. Furthermore, as part of this analysis, we aim to ascertain the total number of active projects on the NEAR blockchain, and also to specifically identify those that are part of NEAR Horizon. This will enable us to have a comprehensive understanding of the scope and scale of developments on the NEAR blockchain.

Methodology:

In this dashboard we are going to be defining active projects as projects that have seen over 500 transactions within the last 30 days. Although when looking at NEAR Horizon we are going to be look at any and all projects as NEAR Horizon is relatively new and sees muh less activity than the overall NEAR ecosystem. In this dashboard we are going to be focusing on three tables near.horizon.fact_decoded_actions, near.core.fact_transactions, and near.core.dim_address_labels table. First we are going to be looking at the transactions table and labels table in order to find the top projects on the platform and then we are going to be looking at the NEAR Horizon table in order to see activity on that platform and how it has changed overtime.

What is NEAR?

NEAR Protocol is a software that aims to incentivize a network of computers to operate a platform for developers to create and launch decentralized applications. Central to NEAR Protocol’s design is the concept of sharding, a process that aims to split the network’s infrastructure into several segments in order for computers, also known as nodes, to only have to handle a fraction of the network’s transactions. By distributing segments of the blockchain, rather than the complete blockchain across network participants, sharding is expected to create a more efficient way to retrieve network data and scale the platform.
