When examining the NEAR blockchain ecosystem, it's clear that different project types hold varying levels of dominance in different areas. In terms of total transaction fees paid, a commanding 70% is claimed by DApp, DeFi, and education projects, accumulating to a significant 50k NEAR. However, the landscape changes when we consider unique users. Here, DApp projects exhibit unrivaled prominence, boasting a colossal 2.86 million unique users - a stark contrast to the second largest group, devtooling, with a comparatively modest 207k. The story of total transactions mirrors that of transaction fees; once again, DApp, education, and DeFi projects take the lead, constituting over 85% of all transactions and crossing an astounding 50 million transactions. Observing monthly transactions over time, it's interesting to note that education and ecosystem projects held the top spot until a significant shift occurred in September 2022. Ecosystem transactions began to decline, while DApp transactions experienced a massive surge. This pivotal moment in September 2022 also coincided with a shift in monthly transaction fees. Ecosystem projects had been the dominant force since May 2022, but as their activity waned, DApp activity ascended, capturing a larger share of transaction fees. In terms of unique users, DApp remained the undisputed leader, hitting a notable spike of around 971k users that month, and maintaining a steady user base since then, despite a downward trend in new users. It's evident that DApp enjoys the lion's share of overall users, but these users are less active compared to other project types. A deep dive into average transactions per user reveals education projects at the pinnacle, with an average of 968 transactions per user, possibly driven by a handful of highly active users. In contrast, DApp users average only 3-4 transactions each. The quick return time of users to education and ecosystem projects demonstrates their strong appeal, with users often instantly revisiting these project types. Conversely, betting and data projects witness longer intervals between transactions, indicating less frequent usage. In terms of average active days, education and gaming projects come out on top with 24 and 14 days respectively, further highlighting their ability to retain and engage users.
