Osmosis Unstakers
We will look at Osmosis unstaking activity and also the kind of transactions made after unstaking OSMO tokens, in this dashboard.
The undelegation data will be aggregated from curated Flipside tables osmosis.core.fact_staking
. Only undelegation is considered here. Redelegation is considered separately in the next section.
On the right, you can see metrics regarding unstaking OSMO tokens. Only data from 2022 is considered to keep the charts compact and to keep the data relevant for short term.
From the plots :
- In March and early April we saw great increase in undelegations
- Spike in undelegation were seen in May during the UST crash
- Most OSMO undelegation volume took place before the May crash, almost a week before it
- On average we see 200 unstaking transactions initiated by 100+ users, removing around 100,000 OSMO on a daily basis
Redelegation is technically undelegating and immediately delegating to another validator.
The required data can be aggregated from the same table as above.
On the right, various metrics are plotted, from which we can see :
- Redelegation is almost as popular as Undelegation overall
- However, spike in redelegations are much more frequent, which means the average is generally lower
- Unlike Undelegations, we see more activity in March and almost no activity during May crash
- Quite alot of OSMO volume was redelegated during the 1st quarter of 2022
- Recently, we see a lack of activity
- This could be because, most users have taken their positions and hence not much movement is required
Who are some of the top receivers of the OSMO redelegations.
Aggregating the same from osmosis.core.fact_staking
and from the pie charts on the right, we can see
- There is no obvious winner
- However Cosmostation leads in all the metrics.
- On the other hand, we see a clear difference in the next few spots when comparing OSMO volume with Transaction volume.
- 0base.vc , Sentinel dVPN and ChandraStation have more OSMO volume
- While OmniFlix, Frens and Sentinel have more transaction volume.
- Its likely that the former group has more whales delegating to them.
Now we will look at the post undelegation activity.
We will aggregate the various transactions from different tables.
- Transfer of OSMO between wallets from -
osmosis.core.fact_transfers
- Swapping OSMO for other assets from -
osmosis.core.fact_swaps
- Adding OSMO to pools from -
osmosis.core.fact_liquidity_provider_actions
In the plots below, we consider two scenarios.
-
OSMO activity after any amount of time has passed after undelegation
-
OSMO activity only with 1 day of undelegation
The first pair of plots show the immediate next OSMO transaction irrespective of time between the transaction and the undelegation. The 2nd pair shows only the transactions that occured within 1 day of the undelegation transaction. Moreover, undelegations that didn’t have an OSMO transaction after the said undelegation are markednothing
.
And looking at those pairs of plots :
- In the long run, the undelegated OSMO is always transacted
- In this case, its mostly swapped to some other asset. Transfers come next. LPing come third
- We can see the slow growth of
nothing
tagged transactions - We can see OSMO unstaked in first quarter of 2022, has been almost completely transacted
Enacting a 1 day limit :
nothing
tagged transaction are now the mainstay- This is primarily because of the 14 day unstaking period, hence unstaked OSMO sometimes is forgotten for a day or so
Only considering LP-additions done within one day of undelegating and only considering 2022 data:
- Pool 1, the ATOM/OSMO pool is the most popular pool
- The UST/OSMO pool (pool ID 560) received most liquidity activity, as it was the apex stablecoin on COSMOS ecosystem
- STARS/OSMO pool (pool ID 604) has the 3rd most transaction and user volume, but loses out to USDC/OSMO pool(pool ID 678) in OSMO volume
- Similarly JUNO/OSMO pool (pool ID 497) has more transaction and users, but loses out to WBTC/OSMO (pool ID 712) in OSMO volume
Only considering swaps done within one day of undelegating and only considering 2022 data:
- The ranking is pretty closely similar to the Liquidity adding ranking
- ATOM at first, UST second
- JUNO losing to USDC in OSMO volume, but reigning 3rd place in transaction and user volume
- LUNA and SECRET complete the top 5
- Alot of Undelegations took place in March 2022, with May crash putting the most volume
- Most Redelegations took place in Q1 2022, post which the activity has dropped
- Undelegations and Redelegation volumes are comparable, however redelegations have massive spikes
- Cosmo Station is preferred validator to be redelegated
- In the long run undelegated OSMO is always transacted, with SWAPs being the main
- However, most undelegated OSMO remains stale one day after undelegation
- With a day of undelegation, ATOM is the preferred asset OSMO is swapped for. ATOM/OSMO is also the preferred pool to add liquidity
