Thorchain Synths are wrappers around native tokens to enable usage of native assets in DeFi across the COSMOS ecosystem. Unlike other wrappers, Both the native asset and the RUNE token is used to collateralize the synth. In this dashboard, we will calculate the average HOLD duration of a given synth.

Methodology

We will use thorchains.swaps curated table to aggregate the mints and burns of synths. Then we will calculate the average among all the date-s the user has minted synths. Similarly the average among all burning synth events is also calculated.

The idea is that the difference between the averages will be good representation of the average hold times. Once we get this data for every user and asset involved. Then we can calculate the average of this average hold times to get the average hold time for a given asset. Using the same data, a distribution of users can also be generated.

Users on average, hold the assets anywhere between 5 to 10 days. However, most Asset Pools have fewer than 100 users, making this data extremely susceptible to large outliers. For example, KYL has high average holders, but only 1 user has minted the synth and has held ever since.

Now plotting distribution,

• Most pools peak around 0 days, i.e mint and burn within the same day
• Negative days are users, who have made multiple mints and burns and on aggregate made more mints and after burns.
• Only few illiquid pools like the ETH alts like(THOR,TGT,XRUNE, XDEFI, FOX, SNX) have a much spread out in general.
• However, this is because there are very few mints and burns performed.
