Polygon Block Performance
What was the maximum and minimum recorded time between two blocks? How many transactions are done in a block on average? How do these numbers compare to L1 such as Flow or Solana, or other L2 such as Arbitrum or Optimism?
In this dashboard I will check how long it takes on average to create a new block in the polygon network. Actually, I check the maximum, minimum and average time interval between two blocks. I also check the highest and lowest number of transactions recorded for blocks and finally show how much fee was paid per block on average.
I have done all these things for polygon and osmosis networks and I compare them with each other. Also, considering that the polygon tables are growing and the first transaction in the polygon tables is from 15:14 on 2022-06-06, I will review all the results from 2022-06-07.
Getting Started
What you see below are the results obtained for the Polygon and Osmosis networks from 2022-06-07. The following results are obtained using the table polygon.core.fact_blocks (for Polygon) and osmosis.core.fact_blocks (for Osmosis).
All times obtained are in seconds.
Generally, for the Polygon network, it takes a minimum of 2 seconds and a maximum of 25 seconds and an in average of approximately 2.244 seconds to create a new block. But for Osmosis, the situation is slightly different. The minimum recorded time for creating a new block is 1 second and the maximum time is 393194 seconds, equivalent to approximately 109 hours, and on average it takes approximately 6.912 seconds to create a new block. In the graphs below, you can clearly see the time difference between creating a new block between Polygon and Osmosis.
In the table and charts below, the highest and lowest number of transactions recorded in each block (according to the success or failure of the transactions) and also the average number of transactions recorded for each block are displayed. Along with the number of transactions, the highest, lowest and average fee Paid for transactions per block is displayed. The highest number of successful and unsuccessful transactions in polygon blocks are 31,968 and 26,928 respectively. Also, the lowest number of transactions recorded in polygon blocks for both successful and unsuccessful status was 13 transactions. On average, approximately 1,702.77 transactions have been performed in each block of the polygon network, and an average fee of approximately 31.1 USD has been paid for the transactions of each block, of which 27.43 USD was for successful transactions and 3.68 USD for unsuccessful transactions.
These figures are slightly different for Osmosis. The most transactions recorded for Osmosis blocks were 690,195 successful transactions and 634,080 failed transactions, which shows that the number of failed transactions in Osmosis is much higher than that of Polygon. Also, the lowest transaction recorded in Osmosis blocks for both successful and unsuccessful status was 24 transactions. On average, 10,443.78 successful transactions and 50,234.87 unsuccessful transactions have been performed in each Osmosis block. This is abnormal because in some blocks the number of failed transactions was very high. Also, an average fee of 22.28 USD has been paid per Osmosis block, of which 12.03 USD was for successful transactions and 10.25 USD for unsuccessful transactions.
