Q19. Analyzing the NBA Conference Finals (May 17th- May 29th) and determine whether it had an impact on NBA Top Shot's volume.
Did the Warriors, Celtics, Mavericks, or Heat see higher sales volume?
Methodology:
I used the data from flow.core.fact_nft_sales joined with flow.core.dim_topshot_metadata tables for my analysis.
The chart below show the total sales of NBA Top Shot NFTs during the Conference Finals (May 17-29th):
May 22th, 27th and 28th saw the most supply of NFTs sold.
Mavericks sold more NFTs but Warriors had more Volume.
now we take a look at the daily sales of the teams playing in the finals; Celtics, Mavericks, Warriors And Heat and how their performance had an impact on their respective collection: (Sales Volumes are in FLOW)
Complete Eastern Conference finals schedule:
- Game 1 in Miami: Tuesday, May 17 (Heat Won) - not much of an increase of sales in Heat’s Collection.
- Game 2 in Miami: Thursday, May 19 (Celtics Won) - number of sales of Celtic’s collection went parabolic with a 5x increase the day after the game.
- Game 3 in Boston: Saturday, May 21 (Celtics Won) - number of sales of Celtic’s collection went parabolic with a 2.3x increase the day after the game. (10x compared to May 19th sales), Heat’s collection also follows the same footprint with 3x to 7x compared to May 19th sales.
- Game 4 in Boston: Monday, May 23 (Heat Won) - both collections sold about 750 NFTs which is again higher than the sales before finals.
- Game 5 in Miami: Wednesday, May 25 (Celtics Won) - we can see ~25% more sales in both collections.
- Game 6 in Boston: Friday, May 27 (Heat Won) - although Heats won the game, Celtics’ collection sold 50% more, both collection sold more than the day before.
- Game 7 in Miami: Sunday, May 29 (Celtics Won) - we can see a sudden ~4x jump on sales and volume of both collections.

- Game 1 in San Francisco: Wednesday, May 18 (Warriors Won) - first game didn’t had any positive impact on both collections.
- Game 2 in San Francisco: Friday, May 20 (Warriors Won) - but after the second game everything changes and we see a 2-4x increase on sales, Warriors collection sold almost twice as Maverick’s in May 21th.
- Game 3 in Dallas: Sunday, May 22 (Warriors Won) - the rend continues as warriors win back to back and both collection sold about 1850 NFTs.
- Game 4 in Dallas: Tuesday, May 24 (Mavericks Won) -as Mavericks win their first finals game, their collection sees a massive 4.5x increase in sales in the next day.
- Game 5 in San Francisco: Thursday, May 26 (Warriors Won) - Warriors win with a Game 5 Victory and their collection sells twice in the next day, both collections sold about 1K NFTs in the next day.
- Game 6 in Dallas: Saturday, May 28 - (Game 5 Victory) -
