Since its inception in 1920, the National Football League (NFL) has played games on Thanksgiving Day, patterned upon the historic playing of college football games on and around the Thanksgiving holiday. The NFL's Thanksgiving Day games have traditionally included one game hosted by the Detroit Lions since 1934, and one game hosted by the Dallas Cowboys since 1966 (with two exceptions in 1975 and 1977). i used flipside’s flow.core.ez_nft_sales joined with flow.core.dim_allday_metadata tables in my analysis.

first i’ll analyze the stats of the Week 12 which starts with the thanksgiving matches and then i’ll compare the findings with other Weeks of the 2022 NFL Schedule.

🏈 NFL Week 12 Stats

NFL Thanksgiving Games Started on Thu., Nov. 24 with three important games; Detroit Lions vs. Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys vs. NY Giants & Minnesota Vikings vs. New England Patriots. looking at daily sales volume and distribution of of sales per team we see that majority of sales in this was the collections related to these teams, and winners had higher share of the sales. also the day after thanksgiving games we see a 17% increase in trading volume from 68.45K to over 80K.

sales volume dropped to 32.2K in Sat., Nov. 26, this might be because there wasn’t any games scheduled in this day, but in Nov. 27 sales increased by nearly 40% as there was 12 games in this date, and an increase of about 10% in the following day with the final match of Week 12.

🔎Notable Findings:

• throughout the weeknd the sales related to teams that had a match in Thanksgiving day outperformed the sales of other teams.
• Reception and Pass play types had the most shares of sales.
• Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones, the quarterback for the New England Patriots; Calvin Johnson Jr., former football wide receiver for Detroit Lions and Samuel Degarrick Williams who plays the defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys respectively had the highest sales in terms of volume and number of NFTs sold during this week.

🆚 Week 12 Performance Compared vs. Other Weeks.

🔎Notable Findings:

• A Week Prior to 2022 HoF game in Aug 4th volume of All Day NFT sales starts to raise but we see a sudden decline during the Preseason Week 3. with the start of Regular Season of 2022 we see the sales volume reaches to an ATH since earlier this year. (March 3 to be precise)

• since the Preseason Week 2 Average and Median Sales Prices also were on a continuous decline.

• Comparing Week 12 which started with thanksgiving games to other Weeks, we don’t see a major bounce back in sales and volume like we saw in preseason period.

  same applies to other metrics as well, such as Average and Median and 7-DAY Moving Average.

• Strip Back Play Type sales during Week 12 experienced a considerable growth comparing to rest of the year.

• Prior to Week 10, we always see the most sales at the end of the week, but this is not the case in the recent NFL weeks.
