An Introduction to Osmosis

Osmosis is a sovereign DEX-focused app-chain and blockchain in the Cosmos ecosystem. Liquidity providers (LPs) furnish asset pools with liquidity for traders, like other AMM-capable DEXs. Osmosis prioritizes asset pool customisation, which allows DEX market-maker functions, exchange fees, token weighting, and more.

Osmosis is developing 53 projects. Decentralized perpetuals, CDP-based composable collateral, yield optimization, and loan markets will be included. Circle, the second-largest stablecoin issuer, will launch a Cosmos-native USDC in 2023, demonstrating significant interest in the Cosmos ecosystem. Osmosis is developing a novel stableswap AMM, interfluid staking, and mesh security.

Purpose

One of the key metrics in assessing the health of any network is wallet balance. In this dashboard, we take a look on Osmosis' performance in terms of this metric.

The following questions tried to be answered:

• How has the ratio of liquid to staked OSMO changed overtime?
• Are the top 100 OSMO holders the same now as they were at the start of the year?
• What is the current average OSMO per wallet? How has that value changed over time? Plot average OSMO/wallet against user growth.
• Do wallets normally hold a majority of OSMO, or another token? How has this changed over time?

Methodology

Using Flipside new balances table provided for osmosis that is available in osmosis.core.fact daily balances, here it was analyze the following items:

• liquid to staked OSMO ration
• OSMO holders
• Amount of OSMO per Wallet
• SMO vs. other tokens held by wallets

Data Analysis

PART I: Liquid to Staked Osmosis Ratio

• looking at the daily amount of liquid to staked OSMO ration, we see a continuous ascending trend in both staked and liquid OMSO
• Comparing the ratio of these two items, it is seen that the amount of liquid OSMO is more that the amount of staked OSMO, the amount of liquid OSMO is more that the amount of staked OSMO, so that the amount of liquid OSMOs is 8.070844981e+10 (69.5%) while the amount of staked OSMOs is 3.548856551e+10 (30.5%).
• Therefore, it can be concluded that OSMOSIS ecosystem’s performance is good in terms of two metrics of liquid and staked OSMO and liquid to staked Osmosis ration.

PART II: Analysis of Top 100 OSMO Holders

• The first top OSMO holder with the highest amount of OSMO held is the users with address “osmo1fl48……aq6l09’ with total amount of 75.81M OSMO
• The second one is the user with address “ osmo1jv65s…80yhvld” with total amount of 46.46M OSMO held.
• The third one is “osmo1pvxhtre…7g2trt” with total amount of 35.95M OSMO held.
• These are top three OSMO holders identified for the beginning of the year 2022. The following graphs shows current top OSMO holders to make a comparison between these two.

• The first top OSMO holder with the highest amount of OSMO held is the users with address “osmo1fl48……aq6l09’ with total amount of 218.70M OSMO
• The second one is the user with address “ osmo1jv65s…80yhvld” with total amount of 59.72M OSMO held.
• The third one is “osmo1pvxhtre…7g2trt” with total amount of 21.91M OSMO held.
• These are current top three OSMO holders identified. Interestingly, we see that all three top OSMO holders are the same for the beginning of the year 2022 and for the current and it they has kept their position as the top three OSMO holders from the beginning of the year 2022 up to now.

PART III: Analysis of OSMO Per Wallet

• Considering the average OSMO amount per wallet, we see that the amount of this metric has experienced a considerable decrease from the beginning of the year 2022 up to now, so that the amount of average OSMO per wallet on early 2021 is 1704 OSMO and it has decreased to 869 OSMOS on 25 Oct, 2022. This is not a good sign for the health of ecosystem.
• Conversely, considering the average user growth, we see a continuous increase in the number of users added to OSMOSIS ecosystem that is good for the health and growth of this ecosystem, so the the number of users has increased from (15 users) on Jul, 2021 to 407.28k on Oct 25, 2022.

PART IV: Analysis of OSMO vs. Other Tokens held by Wallets

• Making a comparison between OSMO token and other tokens held by wallet, this metric has analyzed both in terms of the volume of the tokens held and the number of users who hold these tokens.
• In terms of the volume of tokens held, we see that OSMO is the first top token held by holders (9.046251282e+ 10) that specifies 59.3% of the top tokens held. The second place is for Atom (with volume of 1.749494891e+10) with 11.5% of whole, and the third top token is ION with total volume of 1.701111195e+10 with 11.2% of the whole.
• In terms of the number of holders who hold these top tokens, again we see that OSMO is in the first place and 61,865,499 users (36.4%) are holding this token, followed by ATOM (36,180,216 users, 21.3%) and EVMOS (10,173261 users, 5.99%).
• We see that OSMO and ATOM are top tokens held by holders both in terms of the volume of token held and the number of holders held these tokens. Moreover, considering that OSMO is the first top token in both aspects, it can be said that it is a sign of the health and good performance of OSMOSIS ecosystem.

Conclusion

The following findings were obtained from the metrics analyzed in this dashboard to show the status of OSMOSIS wallet balances and ecosystem growth.

• There is a continuous ascending trend in both staked OMSO and liquid OSMO.
• Comparing the ratio of these two items, it is seen that the amount of liquid OSMO is more that the amount of staked OSMO, the amount of liquid OSMO is more that the amount of staked OSMO, so that the amount of liquid OSMOs is 8.070844981e+10 (69.5%) while the amount of staked OSMOs is 3.548856551e+10 (30.5%).
