Realms vs Snapshot
This is a dashboard that shows how Realms and Snapshot are growing.
Overview
This dashboard has been created with the intention to provide a clear comparison about the Realms and Snapshot growing trends.
On the one hand, Realms provides a platform for builders on Solana to create a DAO, manage their members, vote on proposals, and allocate their treasury. Whether you are running a multisig, NFT community DAO, or community token DAO, Realms has the tools and integrations to help your community flourish.
On the other hand, Snapshot is a decentralized voting system. It provides flexibility on how voting power is calculated for a vote. Snapshot supports various voting types to cater to the needs of organizations.
The following parts have been studied and compared between both projects:
- Number of votes and cumulative by platform
- Percentage of platform transactions’ share by each respective chain
- Number of users and cumulative by platform
- Percentage of platforms users’ share by each respective chain
- Number of proposals and cumulative by platform
- Number of DAOs and cumulative by platform
- Final average numbers about above metrics registered so far
Results:
The number of proposals and DAOs are also higher for Snapshot. In this case, around 4k proposals were launched each months while around 500 on Realms. The cumulative difference is not as higher as on the other metrics but 32k vs 4.5k is also important.
On the other hand, the number of monthly DAOs increased over time on both cases passing from 1k to 1.5k on Snapshoot and from 50 to 141 on Realms. The cumulative difference since 2022 is also important from 9.6k on Snapshot to 764 on Realms.
The last chart shows the new voters by platform over time. In this case, the difference is also noticeable. The number of Snapshot decreased during the first months but heavly increased over teh last month passing from around 100k new users to more than 200k. On the other side, the Realms increased during the first month from 400 to more than 1k, but decreased during the past month to less than 250 right now.
These final metrics above shows the difference of the global average numbers in both platforms by DAO. At the left side, we can see all the Snapshot metrics while on the right side the Realms is shown.
Firstly, the average DAO votes on Snapshot are around 1k, while in Realms only 56. The number of voters per DAO is around 290 in Snapshot while 11 in Realms. Finally, the amount of proposals per DAO is 8 in Snapshot and 10 in Realms.
As it can be seen, the analysis has been done using data from January 1st 2022, with the intention to provide the better results as possible due to one of the platforms started on December 2021.
On the one hand, we can see how in a monthly basis, there is a big difference in terms of voting actions between one platform and another. In thi case, Snapshot shows a highest number of votes in comparison to Realms, starting at 300k monthly and increasing to more than 500k in August. Realms has doubled their numbers but currently has registered less than 3k votes in a month. The percentage share in terms of platform’s chain looks greater for Snapshot as well having around 1.36% of the total chain actions.
Something similar seen on the previous metrics occurs for the number of active voters. In this case the monthly voters on Snapshots exceeded the 100k each month while on Realms the highest month reached less than 1.5k voters.
Since 2022, more than 1M of voters joined some proposals while in Realms around 7k.
In general, Snapshot represents a total of 2.72 of percentage share of the total Ethereum chain, while Realms only 0.0437% of the total Solana chain.
Key findings
Overall, the most important insight to show is that looking at the results, the Snaphot is a more consolidated platform and its more used for crypto users. In all of the evaluated metrics: votes, voters, DAOs, and proposals, both monthly and average numbers are higher on Snapshot platform rather than on Realms. As well, the votes and voters blockchain shares are higher on Snapshot with respect to the Ethereum chain than for Realms with respect to Solana chain.
More specifically, the key findings found on the analysis have been the following:
-
There is a big difference in terms of voting actions between one platform and another. In thi case, Snapshot shows a highest number of votes in comparison to Realms
-
The percentage share in terms of platform usage with respect to the global chain looks greater for Snapshot having around 1.36% of the total Ethereum chain actions.
-
The amount of active voters is higher on Snapshot.
-
Snapshot represents a total of 2.72 of percentage share of the total Ethereum chain, while Realms only 0.0437% of the total Solana chain.
-
The number of proposals and DAOs are also higher for Snapshot.
-
The number of monthly DAOs increased over time on both cases passing from 1k to 1.5k on Snapshot and from 50 to 141 on Realms.
-
The average DAO votes on Snapshot are around 1k, while in Realms only 56.
-
The number of voters per DAO is around 290 in Snapshot while 11 in Realms.
-
The amount of proposals per DAO is 8 in Snapshot and 10 in Realms.
