Whale swaps

In this dashboard you can see how many swaps are above x$ and how much total amounts were swapped in such transactions. To be able to see a result, you must determine a threshold of the swaps in order to see the results. The default thresold is 150000.

    Intro

Whale swaps are one of the main part of a DEX for its good and healthy economy. Whale swaps are basically those swaps that moved a big amount of volume.

In this dashboard, we are gonna analyze the whale swaps on Sushiswap. To do that, we are gonna take a look at ethereum table transactions. We can use both Ethereum or Ethereum_core databases looking at dex_swaps or ez_swaps respectively. Then, we will need to put a treshold from what we consider a whale swap. In this case, I have put 150000 as a threshold but you can change it in the upside of this document in order to see different results, up to you! This threshold will determine the study of this analysis.

    Methods

To be able to see a good results, the study takes into account several metrics related to Sushsiwap swaps. The analysis consists on 2 main approaches. The first one about the Whale swap numbers (based on the threshold) and the comparison between the weekly numbers of Whale swaps vs the rest of the swaps.

For the first approach, the metrics considered are:

    • Volume swapped above the threshold
    • Average volume swapped above the threshold
    • Number of swaps above the threshold
    • Number of users with swaps above the threshold

For the second approach, the metrics considered are:

    • Weekly volume swapped by volume of the swap (above or below threshold)
    • Weekly average volume swapped by volume of the swap
    • Weekly swaps by volume of the swap
    • Weekly swappers by volume of the swap

Because of the analysis provides a parametrization that requires an instantanous analysis, I have selected to put in the dashboard the query using ethereum.dex_swaps, so it provides quicker results.

    Results

    1st approach

As said before, for the first approach, the metrics considered are:

    • Volume swapped above the threshold: in the case of 150k USD swaps, a total of 48.5B USD were swapped so far.
    • Average volume swapped above the threshold: the average swapped above 150k swaps are 387k USD.
    • Number of swaps above the threshold: the current number of swaps above 150k are 63k
    • Number of users with swaps above the threshold: a total of 253 unique users swapped above 150k USD.

    2nd approach

For the second approach, the metrics considered are:

    • Weekly volume swapped by volume of the swap (above or below threshold): in the case of weekly volume, it can be seen the decrement in the global amount of volume swapped. As well, it seems like the volume swapped above 150k swaps are losing power over time despite a single week in the middle of April month 2022.
    • Weekly average volume swapped by volume of the swap: the weekly average of above threshold increased over the past weeks. As well a superpeak was registered on the 18th April week.
    • Weekly swaps by volume of the swap: in terms of swaps something similar to the volume swapped occurrs. In this case, the total number of Sushsiwap decreased over time and the swaps above 150k USD decreased as well and in a strongest way, losing power against the swaps below 150k.
    • Weekly swappers by volume of the swap: in terms of weekly swappers, the global numbers seems to be similar over time while the total swappers with volumes over 150k decreased.

    Insights and conclusions

This dashboard shows an interactive analysis for readers, where they can set a threshold of Sushiswap volume swaps in order to see several metrics. The analysis has two approaches: one about basic threshold swaps numbers and a second one about the swaps above the threshold compared to others.

As an insights taking into account the default threshold of 150000, we have found that:

    • A total of 48.5B USD were swapped so far.
    • The average swapped above 150k swaps are 387k USD.
    • The current number of swaps above 150k are 63k
    • A total of 253 unique users swapped above 150k USD.
    • The volume swapped above 150k swaps are losing power over time despite a single week in the middle of April month 2022.
    • The weekly average of above threshold increased over the past weeks.
    • The total number of Sushsiwap decreased over time and the swaps above 150k USD decreased as well and in a strongest way, losing power against the swaps below 150k.
    • The global numbers seems to be similar over time while the total swappers with volumes over 150k decreased.
