Cryptopunk Sales and Traders

Which 10 wallets are the most successful Cryptopunk traders? Successful could either mean the wallet has accumulated a large balance from sales or has accumulated a large number of Punks. Explain your methodology and findings.

Introduction

CryptoPunks is a non-fungible token collection on the Ethereum blockchain. The project was launched in June 2017 by the Larva Labs studio, a two-person team consisting of Canadian software developers Matt Hall and John Watkinson.

Method

For this analysis I will be using ethereum.core.ez_nft_sales table to find Cryptopunk Sales on Ethereum. To find Cryptopunk Sales I have filtered records by project_name that are like '%Cryptopunk%' and event_type equals to ’sale’ and for excluding null addresses I have added one more condition that buyer_address should not be like 0x0000000000000….

In following charts first I have prepared a general analysis of Cryptopunk in 2022 in terms of daily number of unique Punk buyers and unique Punk sellers on Ethereum, daily Cryptopunk Sales volume in USD and ETH, daily number of Cryptopunk Sales and unique Cryptopunk items has been traded since beginning of 2022. Next we will see most successful Cryptopunk traders, most traded items and also items traded in highest volume.

Cryptopunk Sales in 2022

The following charts shows number of unique buyers and unique sellers since the beginning of 2022. We can see number of Cryptopunk sellers in average is more than Cryptopunk buyers in 2022. Also we can see number of Cryptopunk traders (both buyers and sellers) decreased on August compared to June and July. And number of unique Cryptopunk buyers in 2022 was 2132 and number of unique Cryptopunk sellers in 2022 was 2253 adresses.

On the following charts we can see 10 most successful Cryptopunk traders in terms of accumulated USD profit, ETH profit and accumulated Cryptopunk items.

To find most successful traders I have calculated sell volume and buy volume for each address and then I have subtracted buy volume from sell volume to get profit than each address made by Cryptopunk trades.

We can see 0x6639c089adfba8bb9968da643c6be208a70d6daa address made the most profit in USD by 50M and 0x899241b0c41051313ce36271a7e13d54c94877a1 address made the most profit in ETH by 52K.

Also 0x269616d549d7e8eaa82dfb17028d0b212d11232a address accumulated the most number of Cryptopunk items so far.

The following charts shows daily volume of Cryptopunk sales in USD and ETH since the beginning of 2022. On USD chart blue line represent 7-days moving average and on ETH chart green line shows 7-days moving average.

We can see USD moving average decreased in late August and it reaches 254K on August 28 that is much lower than average sale volume (USD) in 2022 (1.79M). Total Cryptopunk sale volume in USD reaches 428M

on August 29.

But ETH moving average is some how better than USD and it was high on June and July. Total Cryptopunk sale volume in ETH reaches 195K on August 29.

The following charts shows daily number of Cryptopunk tokens has been sold and daily number of Cryptopunk sales since the beginning of 2022. We can see number of sales has decreased on late August. Total number of Cryptopunk sales in 2022 was 2603 till August 29.

On following charts we can see top 10 Cryptopunk tokens in terms of highest sale volume in USD and ETH and number of trades. We can see CryptoPunk #9998 had the most sale volume by 532M USD. Also this item had the most sale volume in ETH by 124K. And CryptoPunk #9322 by 15 trades is the most traded item between CryptoPunk tokens.

Conclusin

Average number of Cryptopunk sellers in a little more than average number of Cryptopunk buyers in 2022.
