Create an analysis on NBA Top Shots moments and attempt to uncover any correlations between a specific category and sales volume.
Play category analysis
The following charts shows sale volume, number of sales and number of unique buyers based on play type.
We can see Dunk category has the most sale volume among play categories by about 6.51M USD.
Layup category has the most number of sales among play categories by 69.996K.
Dunk category has the most number of unique buyers among play categories by 13.796K.
On following charts you can see sale volume, number of sales, number of buyers and number of sellers over time.
In following we will see what play types do users hold most.
In order to find this result I have measured difference between buy date and sale date in days for each NFT. For those NFTs that had not sale date I have used the current date.
Then sum up the held days based on the play type.
We can see Rim type is the play type that users hold most and next is Assist and 3 Pointers.
What is NBA Top Shot?
NBA Top Shot is an NFT marketplace where sports fans can buy, sell and trade basketball video clips. Launched in 2020, NBA Top Shot is a partnership between the NBA and Dapper Labs, the creators of CryptoKitties. High-profile investors include the NBA legends Michael Jordan, Kevin Durrant and Klay Thompson.
In this dashboard we will look at sale volume based on play types, play categories, players, teams and seasons to see what type or player had the most sale volume.
Next we will do this analysis for paly type over time and last we will look at most held Top Shots based on play type.
Method
To do this analysis I have used flow.core.fact_nft_sales table to find Top Shot NFT sales and flow.core.dim_topshot_metadata table to see what play type (or team, player ,…) had the most number of sales and the most number of unique buyers.
To find sale volume in USD I have used flow.core.fact_prices table and selected average flow price for each day. Then I joined sales result with flow prices on date to get sale volume in USD.
Conclusion
- Rim is the most successful play type in sale volume, number of sales and number of unique buyers.
- 36.4% of total sale volume belongs to Rim type.
- Dunk category has the most sale volume among play categories by about 6.51M USD.
- Layup category has the most number of sales among play categories by 69.996K.
- Dunk category has the most number of unique buyers among play categories by 13.796K.
- Scottie Barnes by 1.38M, Magic Johnson by 1.32M and paul George by 1.15M have the most sale volume among all players.
- Draymond Green by 7443, Steph curry by 7255 and Spencer Dinwiddie by 5405 have the most number of sales among all players.
- Draymond Green by 5131, Steph curry by 4988 and LeBron James by 4509 have the most number of unique buyers among all players.
- This season (2021-22) with big difference is most successful season in sale volume, number of sales and number of unique buyers.
- Golden State Warriors by 3.36M sale volume, 37.65K sales and 12.49K unique buyers is best team among all teams.
- 11.6% of total sale volume belongs to Golden State Warriors.
- Rim type is the play type that users hold most and next is Assist and 3 Pointers.
