Votes, Votes, Votes

Q185. On average, how much voting power (in Luna) was used to vote 'YES' for governance proposals? Out of this, how much Luna comes from validators vs regular wallets?

This dashboard aims to answer question 185: On average, how much voting power (in Luna) was used to vote 'YES' for governance proposals? Out of this, how much Luna comes from validators vs regular wallets?

Terra is a blockchain network built using Cosmos SDK specializing in stablecoin creation. Rather than use fiat or over-collateralized crypto as reserves, each Terra stablecoin is convertible into the network's native token, LUNA.

LUNA allows holders to pay network fees, participate in governance, stake in the Tendermint Delegated Proof of Stake consensus mechanism, and peg stablecoins.

Users can vote on a proposal after a minimum deposit of 50 Luna is reached. To help push a proposal forward to a vote, deposit Luna to the proposal.

Voting is an important way for community members to help the Terra protocol evolve. Follow these steps to vote with your staked Luna.

    1. Open Terra Station and connect your wallet. In the sidebar, click Governance.

    1. Click on Voting to view the active proposals.

    1. Click on the proposal you want to vote on.

    1. In the upper right corner, click Vote.

    1. Select your vote and enter your password.

    1. Click Submit.

To prevent unnecessary proposals or abuse of the system, all governance proposals must obtain a minimum deposit of 50 Luna. If 33.4% of the total vote is NoWithVeto, quorum is not met, or the minimum deposit isn’t reached, the deposit will be burned. All other vote outcomes get their deposits refunded.

In this dashboard, I calculate the amount of voting power (in Luna) that was used to vote YES per proposal_id for both validators and regular wallets. Therefore, you will see every proposal_id appears twice in this table. In general, regular wallets voted YES more than validators.

We can see that there are 86 proposal until now. The proposal_ID ‘165’ has the highest voting_power with YES option, which was around 135,790,609 and the lowest voting power (about 1555) belonged to proposal_ID ‘721’.
