Method⚡
In this dashboard i analyzed ethereum NFT activity in 2022 from different angles.
For this matter i used ==Ethereum.core== database provided by Flipsidecrypto and used ==“ethereum.core.ez_nft_mints”== table for Minting activity, ==“ethereum.core.ez_nft_sales”== for secondary sales,
==“ethereum.core.dim_labels”== for finding collections names and ==“ethereum.core.ez_nft_transfers”== to find the holding time of nft holders.
I filtered the timeframe from 2022-01-01 until 2022-12-31 and also filtered Uniswap and Curve finance from NFT_Mints table with Lable not in (‘Uniswap‘,’Curve Finance’) because they were not collections and ruining the stats.
Findings👀
- Although Minting activity has recorded more transactions and users than secondary sales, but secondary sales volume is much higher than mint USD volume over time.
- We can see that Secondary sales volume and number of sales were bearish in 2022 and the volume dropped almost 15.5B since January. The story is the same for monthly average volume too.
- Ethereum has recorded its highest NFT minting activity on September when 780K minters recorded over 3.4M mints in that month.
- We can clearly confirm our thoughts in overall charts which we can see that minting activity was in the lead in terms of transactions, users, collections and nfts in 2022 while the situation is reversed in volume chart.
- Secondary sales has recorded over 52B USD volume in 2022 and this number is more than 3 times of mint’s USD volume.
Findings👀
- The meebits collection mysteriously got disappeared after April while it was dropping more month by month after January that this collection recorded its highest Sales USD volume in it in 2022.
- As we see, Terraforms collection is the most sold collection in 2022 in terms of USD volume with over 12B sales volume in USD followed by meebits in the second place with 9.6B in total.
- In the top 5 collections in terms of mint usd volume chart, we see that Pixelmon is in the lead among other collections in top 5 with almost 76M mint USD volume in 2022 followed by Moonbirds in the second place with almost 60M.
- It is interesting that secondary sales volume were much higher than mint volume over time in 2022.
Findings👀
- We can clearly see that OpenSea has outperformed other marketplaces on ethereum chain in 2022 in terms of number of sales and it is the second one among ethereum marketplaces in terms of sales USD volume. Looksrare is in the lead in that case with over 25B sales USD volume in 2022.
- Blur marketplaces that launched recently among these monster marketplaces, has recorded some big stats and went in the second place behind opensea in terms of number of sales on November and December.
- Looksrare and Opensea are completely dominating other marketplaces in sales USD volume and it seems most of the big sales happened in these 2 marketplaces in 2022.
Findings👀
- In this section, as you see, i showed the biggest gainers and losers collections in terms of value in 2022.
- Dreadfulz is the biggest gainer with over 151K USD and Terraforms is the biggest loser with over -240K USD followed by Meebits in the second with -225K. Looks like the top collections in terms of USD volume in 2022 has lost lots of value in this year.
Conclusion💡
- 2022 was a crazy year for NFTs and NFT Collections and also marketplaces especially on Ethereum. Lots of new people got familiar with NFTs and this NFT stuff got some hype in the beginning 2022 when some famous people bought an nft like eminem that bought a boredapeyachtclub for 123 worth of ethereum on December 23 2021.
- Minting activity was bigger than secondary sales on almost every metrics expect volume.
- Terraforms was the biggest nft collection in terms of USD volume in secondary sales and Pixelmon was the biggest one in terms of USD volume in Mints.
- OpenSea and Lookrare were the most popular and biggest nft marketplaces on ethereum in 2022.
- Users average time of holding a NFT was 15.5 days on 2022.
- Dreadfulz is the biggest gainer with over 151K USD and Terraforms is the biggest loser with over -240K USD followed by Meebits in the second with -225K. Looks like the top collections in terms of USD volume in 2022 has lost lots of value in this year.
- NFT buying activity was descending in 2022 and it was because of crypto downturn and bearish market.
